Finnbarr BMH Freeform Promo Mix (2016)

The other day I was browsing on my good ol’ friend called Facebook, and found out that I was invited to an event in Bournemouth, held on the 23rd of July. It’s called ‘BMH Freeform – Return Of The Daytime Rave’. Seeing as I’m a huge fanatic when it comes to Freeform, my eyes were opened. Why? Well, the line-up looks absolutely amazing! Really amazing, the finest of the finest artists will perform at this event. The event itself is brand new to me, never heard of BMH before, but I will do from now on.

Looking at the tracklist there’s no reason why you shouldn’t go. Rikki Arkitech, Transcend, A.B, Thumpa, Cyrax, Midas and newcomer Finnbarr will be there, and if everything works out fine, I will be there too! I can not resist such a beautiful line-up, and truth be told I do need my Freeform dosage, it’s been a while since I last raved the night away. To get me excited and others too Finnbarr, a newcomer in the scene (I think), has put together a wonderful promo mix, full of his own stuff. At BHM it will be his debut set, so it’s worth it to check this new kid out.

Don’t know much about Finnbarr, let’s go straight to the tracklist.

01. Finnbarr – Taste Like Sunshine
02. Sunburst – Eyeball (Finnbarr Bootleg Remix)
03. Finnbarr – Havin It Larger
04. Assemblage 23 – Disappointed (Finnbarr Remix)
05. A.B vs Finnbarr – Dead Fairy
06. Finnbarr – Light Bearer
07. Finnbarr – Freedive
08. Finnbarr – Naty Things
09. Finnbarr – E=MC2
10. Finnbarr – The Prayer
11. Finnbarr – The Bornless One

This is an interesting tracklist. Seen a video of Finnbarr a couple of weeks ago, but never heard any of his tunes before. After listening to this promo mix I do know one thing for sure: this man will set the Freeform world alight! Crikey, this mix is insane, and the quality of the tunes are immense! Worthy enough to be released on Stamina Records, the best label in the Freeform world!

His mix is tight, the tracks are all solid as a rock. Even though I know nothing, this man has interested me. Now I definately need to go to this event and see him live. I need more Finnbarr, quite addictive mix if I’m honest. Liking it a lot!

Be there, or be… somewhere else. But I think you should do your best to get to this event, because it will be amazing! Only for 6.50 pounds you will get such an amazing line-up! This is the place to be: BMH. And Finnbarr’s there too! Even though it’s a daytime event, it will be amazing! I’ll be there too!

Hardcore Euphoria (2006)

Sometimes you go through your music collection and you find albums you haven’t played for weeks/months/years. And I think it’s about time we talk about this album, called Hardcore Euphoria (or the other way around, I don’t care). We should be celebrating this album, seeing as it’s been exactly 10 years since its release, and still to this day one of the best mix compilation to come out of the UK Hardcore scene. Nothing can compete, if I’m honest. This monster album was a game changer when it was released, and even today, if you listen to it again it will leave you breatless!

10 years, time do fly by. The music has changed, and so has the industry. Only one duo are still active, I won’t go into details, but most of us already know what happened. Only Dougal and Gammer still produce music together. Back in 2006, when everything was perfect in UK Hardcore land, these three duos dominated everything. And you can tell if you listen to the tunes: they were all perfect! I would say quality over quantity, but that’s not strictly true. They kept on producing hit after hit, and there was no way of stopping them. Each track was pure madness, pure filth, pure bliss. Everything was okay. And it has all changed: listen to this album, and compare it to the present day sound, two different worlds.

The album contained the finest collaborations, the finest tracks, and it created many memories. This is still to me the best album I’ve ever bought. Hardcore Heaven were close, but this one was much better. Why? Well, if you look at the tracks you will know why!

30. Hard Creation – I Will Have That Power 2006 (The Stunned Guys Remix)

See? This is a wonderful album, the tracklist looks absolutely epic! If you haven’t purchased this album between 2006 and 2016 you ain’t Hardcore mate, you seriously ain’t.

The 6 DJs delivered an epic album, perfectly mixed, and also perfectly composed, track wise. It’s difficult to choose which mix is the best, they all are awesome. I am maybe a bit biased, I am a huge fan of Sy & Unknown and Brisk, so these two would share the first position. Doesn’t mean Dougal and Gammer’s mix is less, but I would prefer the other two mixes a tiny bit more.

The tracks were better, the music was better back in 2006. So different compared to the music from 2016. In 10 years it has changed a lot, and if I have to share a little bit of a secret, I would prefer the 2006 sound. Nothing can compete, these tracks are ALL dancefloor smashers. The music is good, the vibes this album has generated has not been done by any other compilation. Not all the tracks are awesome, ‘Cold As Ice’ and ‘Tell Me Why’ are too cheesy for me, but still, it fits perfectly in the mix.

What’s the best track of this compilation? Difficult, three mixes, 6 DJs. Per mix? Well, I know that Brisk & Ham’s mix has got the coolest, wickedest (is that a word) underrated track: Dreadhead – Too Damn High. Fell in love with it since the first time I heard it. Dougal and Gammer’s mix: The Beat, The Bass. Why? You know why! Sy & Unknown’s mix: Angel. The vocals are beautiful! Name another track as good as this one!?

A wonderful album, they don’t make them like this anymore. Come on people, it’s 2016, there must be someone who has made a time machine. I want to go back 10 years in time, to the golden years of UK Hardcore. It might not have been appreciated as much as it is nowadays, but quality over anything. And the tunes were way better than 2016. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is a fact.

SPIT – Best Of 2010 Production Showcase

This weekend has been about UK Hardcore, came across several UK Hardcore mixes I really wanted to share with you all. The latest I’ve found was a mix done by SPIT, a UK Hardcore producer and DJ. I can not give you any more details, because I don’t know any more, but I have seen his name fly by several times in tracklists of mixes, and if I’m correct he has appeared on compilations too, hasn’t he? Well, I’m not quite sure, if you do have more information, don’t be afraid to share it with me. Knowledge is power, they say.

This mix is a good one, if you like UK Hardcore to be Happy, bouncy and cheerful. It’s got all that! SPIT’s tracks have appeared in mixes I’ve listened to before, and you can find a few of his tracks from 2010 in this production showcase mix. It’s 6 years old, but still worth a listen. Quality tunes, I have to say. And even though they are 6 years old, they still sound fresh and uplifting. A bit different if you compare it to the present day UK Hardcore, but still highly entertainable. Love the old sound, I really do.

Another mix with a tracklist! It’s becoming a natural thing, which is good. Never liked mixes without a tracklist: how would the listeners know which tunes to purchase?

01. Hotchkiss & Infinity – Last Goodbye (SPIT Remix)
02. SPIT – The Beginning
03. SPIT – RockJam
04. SPIT – Round 5 (2010 Mix)
05. Lumin8 – Here With Me (SPIT Remix)
06. SPIT – Discobitch
07. SPIT – Shenmue
08. BS – Shining (SPIT Remix)
09. Defekt & SPIT – Where Are You Now
10. SPIT feat Jenna – The Only Way (2010 Fresh Edit)

This is a very fresh sounding mix. Yes, it’s already 6 years old, but don’t let that worry you. It’s all about the music, and the tunes are very good. This is exactly what you need to get through the weekend with a smile on your face.

He started with a classic anthem, and I think that’s the most played SPIT track of all time. A true classic anthem, really loved it to hear it again after so many years. All the others are really good to hear, one track just makes my stomache turn a bit (RockJam), because it’s got guitars in it, and I’m not a fan of it. But that’s just my perspective. You might like it, give it a go I would say.

A very good and interesting mix. Again, if you have more details regarding this artist, please do share. For now I can urge everyone to listen to this mix, download it, and play it wherever you want to. A good mix!

Obie – X (2015)

Being a decade in anything is an achievement. My favourite MC (besides MC Enemy) has reached that last year, and to celebrate his success as an MC and also as a producer he released his own artist album called ‘X’. As usual I am too damn late to get on the hype train, but I remember vividly when he released a video, a mysterious video, and it got me thinking: this man is going to do something unusual and it will cause a stir in the scene (in a good way). He did exactly that, his album was like nothing released before, a first in the UK Hardcore scene.

The album contains two discs, one is unmixed and the second one is mixed, but that disc will be the one which will blow your mind away. Why? I’ll tell you in a minute. The first disc contains his finest tracks with 10 artists he worked with, and let me name a few: Modulate, Fracus, Joey Riot, Alex Prospect, A.B and more. All these tracks are unmixed, so perfect for a DJ to play in his/her set. These are dancefloor smashers, real body shaking tracks.

Now, the second disc. Why is this so special? On the first disc he shows not only his skills as a producer, but he picked 10 tracks he made alongside 10 amazing producers. The second disc contains not only 20 tracks, but also 10 MCs! Name  one album which has 10 MCs on it? Technically it has 11 MCs on it, if we include MC Obie himself, but he asked the best of the best MCs to do their thing, and the MCs in question are: Storm, Whizzkid, Enemy, Wotsee, Keyes, Mayhem, Skatty, Thunda, Leggett and Dazzler! How about that?! Not done before, and not done since. This is an album you must need!

CD One – Unmixed
01. Modulate & Obie – Some Hardcore Track
02. Fracus, Marc Smith & Obie – Party Crashers
03. Joey Riot & Obie – In The Dark
04. Alex Prospect & Obie – Viper
05. Technikore & Obie – Mr. Hoover
06. Joey Riot & Obie – Alive
07. Drop Ya Jaw – Ermagherd Lazers (Klubfiller Remix)
08. A.B & Obie – Drop Everything
09. Darwin & Obie – Futureshock (Gammer Remix)
10. Bear Peaks – Rudeboy Banquet

CD Two – Mixed
01. Obie – Intro
02. Modulate & Obie – Some Hardcore Track
03. Fracus, Marc Smith & Obie – Party Crashers
04. Obie – Bodybag
05. Joey Riot & Obie – In The Dark
06. Joey Riot & Darren Grant – I’m The Cook
07. Joey Riot & Alex Prospect – DJ Turn It Up
08. Alex Prospect & Obie – Viper
09. Joey Riot & Alex Prospect feat Obie & Mayhem – Keep It Lethal
10. Obie – Activate The Sirens
11. Technikore & Obie – Mr. Hoover
12. Joey Riot feat Obie, Mayhem, Thunda & Haywire – Mic Chekkaz
13. Joey Riot & Obie – Alive
14. Alex Prospect – All Falls Down
15. Drop Ya Jaw – Ermagherd Lazers (Klubfiller Remix)
16. A.B & Obie – Drop Everything
17. Darwin & Obie – Futureshock (Gammer Remix)
18. Darwin, Obie & Mr. E – Stereosonic (A.B Remix)
19. Bear Peaks – Abduction
20. Bear Peaks – Rudeboy Banquet

After listening to this CD on my way to a nice holiday (well, just a hotel in Milton Keynes, but still a holiday for me) it got me thinking that there’s no one like MC Obie in the scene. MC Obie is a legend, and with this album he shows how diverse he is as not only a producer, not only as an MC, but also as a DJ (he mixed the second disc). This man deserves more credit than most people give him.

Name anyone in the scene who has achieved the same as he has? Alongside 10 producers and 10 MCs he has delivered an awesome album, worth to get right now. I haven’t heard a single track which made me scratch my head or think ‘this is a bit meh’. These are all quality tunes, quality over quantity, eh? Not only is the first disc a beauty, but the second is more my cup of tea. I’m more of a DJ mix bloke, and to hear 11 MCs giving their all, is just amazing.

A truly remarkable album, should have bought this when it was fresh and new. But it still sounds fresh and new, and if you want to, you can still get this album from the Hardcore Underground Webstore. Get this album now, a truly remarkable album from a remarkable artist. Can’t wait to hear ‘XX’, 9 years and counting.

Louk – Defqon.1 Festival 13/06/2009

It’s been a long time since I last heard a Louk mix. Maybe a bit too long, if I’m brutally honest. Don’t even think I’ve got any mixes of him on this new website? Nah, don’t think so. It must have been years ago, and I feel dreadful. But thank God I found a new mix we can all listen to and appreciate. It was his set at the mighty Defqon.1 in the Netherlands ofcourse, where he played a majestic set. A Hard Trance/Hardstyle/Tech Trance set. According to the information provided, it was his first international booking, and it also happened on his 24th birthday. How cool is that, to play at Defqon.1 is already a dream coming true, and also to celebrate your birthday on stage, doing what you love doing?

This set already reached the 86th position in the Hardstyle chart on Mixcloud, which is an achievement, seeing as it was only uploaded 3 days ago. But there’s a catch: no download. You can only listen to it when you are on your phone or behind your computer. Well, that’s not really a worry, is it? You can still appreciate this brutal set, which will blow your mind away. It’s Louk, playing at Defqon.1! What else do you need, or want?

Really digging the set, it’s what I was after to get me through this weekend. A very enjoyable set by someone who should get his own event. Louk, the Festival. Wouldn’t that be another dream coming true? He deserves it, just listen to this set and you will know why he deserves his own event!

01. Organ Donors – Looking For Drugs (Vandalls Under The Knife Remix)
02. Organ Donors – 4 Tribes (Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’) (Will Atkinson’s Under The Knife Remix)
03. Kutski vs Bioweapon – 4th Dimension
04. Kamui – Thrill Kill
05. Louk – Happy Days
06. Dark Alliance vs O’Callaghan & Kearney – Genetic Pendulum (DJ Mogey Bootleg)
07. Joe-E & Brian Eddie – Acid Rocka (Demo Mix)
08. Louk & Brian Eddie – Critical Level
09. Zero3 & Mark Doc – R.E.C.T. Theme
10. Nomad – Acid Dream
11. Tube – Wake Up
12. Tiësto – Lethal Industry (Andrea Montorsi Bootleg 2009)
13. Hardforze & Soul T – Let The Beat Drop (Nomad Mix)
14. DJ Medowz – After Hours Club
15. S.F.M. – XTC
16. Ian Cross – Sexy Beast
17. Joe-E vs Busho – Music Matters (DJ Thera Remix)

A beautiful mix, isn’t it? Louk’s set from Defqon.1 is definately one you want and need to get you through the weekend. A smashing mix, I can imagine the crowd loosing themselves when Louk entered the stage and dominated this event. He wasn’t the only one who played at this event, but he must have left a long lasting impression on those who witnessed him!

I can talk for hours and hours, but I will not. I think you just need to listen to this liveset, and enjoy it as much as I have. From the first moment to the last this kept me moving. Something different, sometimes a bit quirky, but highly enjoyable. The weather ain’t good this weekend, but there’s only one cure that might get you through this weekend, and I’m guessing you already know what it is: this wonderful liveset.

Louk, you deserve your own event. Or maybe your own stage at Defqon.1. The Louk stage. With Louk styled dancers, Louk styled lights and Louk styled speakers, everything should be focussed on Louk. Louk is a legend. Powerful set. Let the weekend start with a bang! Thanks Louk.

Re-Style – Warm Up Mix Ground Zero 2015

If you go onto Soundcloud and you pres play, you can hear whatever you want to listen to. Last weekend I was listening to anoter mix by another artist, and what happened after the mix ended is that the next mix was started. Didn’t choose it, it went by accident. But thank God I did, it’s one banging mix by Re-Style. A proper Hardcore mix for anyone who like his music rough and tough. Re-Style has been a legend in my books for many years, and after hearing this wonderful mix I came to the conclusion: I should have gone Ground Zero last year just to witness this legend play! My God, what an amazing mix!

Don’t get too excited about Ground Zero 2015, it has already happened. You can look out for Ground Zero 2016, but to get you into party mode you can always press play and listen to this majestic mix. A year old but still sounding fresh as a daisy. Obviously it’s filled with his own productions, but also a few by his fellow Hardcoree pioneers. He must have done an amazing job at last year’s Ground Zero, the reviews were absolutely amazing! With a promo mix like this one you would definately get the crowd hyped up and ready for an amazing night out.

01. Re-Style – Commander + Renovation (DJ Tool)
02. Kensington – Riddles (Re-Style & Kasparov Bootleg)
03. Re-Style & Korsakoff – Skream
04. The Viper & Re-Style feat Diesel – Night & Day
05. Re-Style – Vicious
06. Re-Style & Korsakoff – Wasted World
07. Re-Style – Dark Clouds
08. Catscan – WO3 (Cats ReKick Edit)
09. Re-Style feat Tha Watcher – Forge Your Freedom
10. Re-Style – Wasteland
11. Major Lazer – Lean On (The Viper & Panic Hardcore Mix)
2. Dyprax – Running Scared

The tracklist is absolutely beautiful! No other word for it. It’s pure and kicking from the first second. I have already downloaded it and have spread it amongst us human beings by playing it out loud. The street didn’t seem to appreciate it, mister policeman is knocking on our door, but I couldn’t care less. Give me a second to handle this….

Back. Not a fan either, and asked me to lower the music. I have, and thankfully you can still listen to this mix at any level. The tracks selected by Re-Style are really amazing and really good. Carefully mixed and composed. This was a very good promo mix for Ground Zero, one of the finest Hardcore events in the Netherlands, and to have Re-Style playing there must have been the bomb for those witnessing him.

A good set, a year old but who cares? It’s all about sharing and loving the music, and I’m not only loving this, I am adoring this. I am burning this onto a disc and will play this in my car on my way to work tomorrow. Thank you Re-Style for this wonderful mix, I have satisfied my daily dose of Hardcore now!
