Soundcloud is filled with awesome music, and also mixes from the golden age of Hardcore. As you’ve probably noticed, I’ve only recently moved to the UK, and during the years of me living in my Motherland I have missed out on a lot of compilations, such as the one this review is focussed on. ‘Battle Of The DJ’s’? Never heard of it before. Never seen it before. All brand new, even thought it’s 12 years old. Thanks to RSR Recordings for uploading Ramos, Supreme & Sunset Regime’s mix on this compilation (the second disc was a mix by Force and Styles.

After a quick look on Discogs I found out that the label which released this compilation only released albums in 2003 and 2004, and was run by Slipmatt and DJ Slam. Only 10 releases, and it stopped. Several mixes were released on Beats24-7, and the first one of the ‘Battle Of The DJ’s’ was between Slipmatt and DJ Vibes. After the second volume they stopped. The first CD of the second instalment can be found on Soundcloud, or underneath this review. The mix was done by (as I said before) Ramos, Sunset Regime and Supreme. Thankfully Discogs provided us with a tracklist, where would we be without our friends at Discogs?

tracklist

01. Citadel Of Kaos & Justin Time – Rock The Disco
02. Sunset Regime – Fire This Time
03. DJ Seduction – Samplemania (Remix)
04. J.D.S. & DJ Fury – Age Of Stomp
05. Supreme & UFO – Forever Autumn
06. DJ Stompy, Supreme & UFO – Here Beside Me
07. Hixxy – Thumper
08. DJ Stompy – I Believe
09. Supreme & UFO – Paradise
10. DJ Lee – A Touch Of Darkness
11. Sunset Regime – Fire This Time
12. Ramos, Supreme & Sunset Regime – Sunshine
13. DJ Slam – Influence
14. Sunset Regime – Tribal Chant
15. DJ Sy & Eruption – 12″ Of Love
16. Ramos, Supreme & UFO – Terminator
17. Mr. Hyde & UFO – Organ Power
18. Trance Masters – Acid Sunshine

As I’ve missed out on most tracks released back in the 90s and 00s, this is for me the perfect way to catch up. Thanks to RSR Recordings and others for uploading ‘old’ albums, which are probably rare to get anyway. The best thing about this? It’s for free! Check it out on Soundcloud right now, and there’s much more if you want to get that Sunday buzz feeling.

It’s weird to say that this mix is 12 years old. Still sounds crisp and sharp. The music scene might have changed, but not the power behind those dancefloor anthems. I am fascinated about the fact that we as humans might age, but music simply doesn’t. I reckon you can still listen to this mix in a 100 years time and it will still sound awesome and epic.

Favourite track? Well, I don’t know the title, I think it’s ‘Age Of Stomp’? The lyrics in my favourite track are ‘I like the things that go boom’. Now I’m not sure if that’s the title of the track (‘Age Of Stomp’), could be the next one, but the one with those lyrics in it is my favourite!

A wonderful mix by Ramos, Sunset Regime and Supreme. Don’t know who won this battle, haven’t heard the second disc yet. There must be a version of it somewhere hidden on Soundcloud, and I will chase it down, so I can compare who actually won. It will be difficult, seeing as the tracklist for the second disc is also a slammer.

The other day I was browsing on my good ol’ friend called Facebook, and found out that I was invited to an event in Bournemouth, held on the 23rd of July. It’s called ‘BMH Freeform – Return Of The Daytime Rave’. Seeing as I’m a huge fanatic when it comes to Freeform, my eyes were opened. Why? Well, the line-up looks absolutely amazing! Really amazing, the finest of the finest artists will perform at this event. The event itself is brand new to me, never heard of BMH before, but I will do from now on.

Looking at the tracklist there’s no reason why you shouldn’t go. Rikki Arkitech, Transcend, A.B, Thumpa, Cyrax, Midas and newcomer Finnbarr will be there, and if everything works out fine, I will be there too! I can not resist such a beautiful line-up, and truth be told I do need my Freeform dosage, it’s been a while since I last raved the night away. To get me excited and others too Finnbarr, a newcomer in the scene (I think), has put together a wonderful promo mix, full of his own stuff. At BHM it will be his debut set, so it’s worth it to check this new kid out.

Don’t know much about Finnbarr, let’s go straight to the tracklist.

tracklist

01. Finnbarr – Taste Like Sunshine
02. Sunburst – Eyeball (Finnbarr Bootleg Remix)
03. Finnbarr – Havin It Larger
04. Assemblage 23 – Disappointed (Finnbarr Remix)
05. A.B vs Finnbarr – Dead Fairy
06. Finnbarr – Light Bearer
07. Finnbarr – Freedive
08. Finnbarr – Naty Things
09. Finnbarr – E=MC2
10. Finnbarr – The Prayer
11. Finnbarr – The Bornless One

This is an interesting tracklist. Seen a video of Finnbarr a couple of weeks ago, but never heard any of his tunes before. After listening to this promo mix I do know one thing for sure: this man will set the Freeform world alight! Crikey, this mix is insane, and the quality of the tunes are immense! Worthy enough to be released on Stamina Records, the best label in the Freeform world!

His mix is tight, the tracks are all solid as a rock. Even though I know nothing, this man has interested me. Now I definately need to go to this event and see him live. I need more Finnbarr, quite addictive mix if I’m honest. Liking it a lot!

Be there, or be… somewhere else. But I think you should do your best to get to this event, because it will be amazing! Only for 6.50 pounds you will get such an amazing line-up! This is the place to be: BMH. And Finnbarr’s there too! Even though it’s a daytime event, it will be amazing! I’ll be there too!

Sometimes you go through your music collection and you find albums you haven’t played for weeks/months/years. And I think it’s about time we talk about this album, called Hardcore Euphoria (or the other way around, I don’t care). We should be celebrating this album, seeing as it’s been exactly 10 years since its release, and still to this day one of the best mix compilation to come out of the UK Hardcore scene. Nothing can compete, if I’m honest. This monster album was a game changer when it was released, and even today, if you listen to it again it will leave you breatless!

10 years, time do fly by. The music has changed, and so has the industry. Only one duo are still active, I won’t go into details, but most of us already know what happened. Only Dougal and Gammer still produce music together. Back in 2006, when everything was perfect in UK Hardcore land, these three duos dominated everything. And you can tell if you listen to the tunes: they were all perfect! I would say quality over quantity, but that’s not strictly true. They kept on producing hit after hit, and there was no way of stopping them. Each track was pure madness, pure filth, pure bliss. Everything was okay. And it has all changed: listen to this album, and compare it to the present day sound, two different worlds.

The album contained the finest collaborations, the finest tracks, and it created many memories. This is still to me the best album I’ve ever bought. Hardcore Heaven were close, but this one was much better. Why? Well, if you look at the tracks you will know why!

30. Hard Creation – I Will Have That Power 2006 (The Stunned Guys Remix)

See? This is a wonderful album, the tracklist looks absolutely epic! If you haven’t purchased this album between 2006 and 2016 you ain’t Hardcore mate, you seriously ain’t.

The 6 DJs delivered an epic album, perfectly mixed, and also perfectly composed, track wise. It’s difficult to choose which mix is the best, they all are awesome. I am maybe a bit biased, I am a huge fan of Sy & Unknown and Brisk, so these two would share the first position. Doesn’t mean Dougal and Gammer’s mix is less, but I would prefer the other two mixes a tiny bit more.

The tracks were better, the music was better back in 2006. So different compared to the music from 2016. In 10 years it has changed a lot, and if I have to share a little bit of a secret, I would prefer the 2006 sound. Nothing can compete, these tracks are ALL dancefloor smashers. The music is good, the vibes this album has generated has not been done by any other compilation. Not all the tracks are awesome, ‘Cold As Ice’ and ‘Tell Me Why’ are too cheesy for me, but still, it fits perfectly in the mix.

What’s the best track of this compilation? Difficult, three mixes, 6 DJs. Per mix? Well, I know that Brisk & Ham’s mix has got the coolest, wickedest (is that a word) underrated track: Dreadhead – Too Damn High. Fell in love with it since the first time I heard it. Dougal and Gammer’s mix: The Beat, The Bass. Why? You know why! Sy & Unknown’s mix: Angel. The vocals are beautiful! Name another track as good as this one!?

A wonderful album, they don’t make them like this anymore. Come on people, it’s 2016, there must be someone who has made a time machine. I want to go back 10 years in time, to the golden years of UK Hardcore. It might not have been appreciated as much as it is nowadays, but quality over anything. And the tunes were way better than 2016. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is a fact.

It’s been quite a while since I last heard a MC & DJ Competition mix, I thought many wouldn’t do it anymore, seeing as it was always difficult to pick one favourite DJ and MC to perform at the event they are fighting for. For upcoming NTWICH they’ve decided to do it again like the good ol’ days, and asked for upcoming DJs and MCs to send in a mix showcasing their strength. The one I’ve found was done by a DJ called DJ G, and his competition mix can be found online (or underneath this review). If you like to hear a short but very entertaining mix, this is the place to be: scroll down and check it out.

I don’t know much about DJ G. Nothing much? Well, clearly nothing. The only thing I know is his name and the fact that he made a competition mix. That’s basically it. I know the event he wants to play at has got really good names on the line-up, like Chris Unknown, Clowny & Reminisce, Dougal, Klubfiller, Al Storm, Fallon, Jakka-B, Fat Steve & Dave Castellano and more. If I could, I would go this event, because it’s where the magic is going to happen. And hopefully DJ G will be playing there, unless there are other mixes better than his, and I haven’t found another mix, so I can’t judge.

As I mentioned before, I do not have a clue who he is, but he picked very interesting tracks. A very cool tracklist, if I’m honest. Liking the vibes.

The tracklist is really good, got nothing to say about the tracklist. Absolutely spot on. Amazing tracks, carefully selected and mixed together. I do like every track, that’s a bonus. In nearly every mix there’s at least one track I don’t like, but not in this mix. Liking the tracks from number 1 to number 17.

There’s a small issue: he mixes too damn quickly. There’s no time to really enjoy each track, and its potential can be lost sometimes during this mix. If you are a fan of quick mixes, this is your cup of tea. I would have liked it if the mix was a bit longer, or shorter with less tracks. He has picked some amazing tracks, but doesn’t let them show their potentials.

Still enjoyed this mix a lot. Don’t know if he’s going to win, but good luck to him!
