Marcus Intalex History Tribute Mix (78 Tracks / 3 Hours) (2017)

On the 28th of May the Drum and Bass scene lost a legend, and his name is Marcus Intalex. If you haven’t read anything about it, this must come as a shock. But I reckon the majority of the fans already know, and have paid tribute in many ways. Sharing mixes, posting nice comments online, and reposting whatever they could. A couple of weeks ago Fabric uploaded Marcus Intalex’s FABRICLive 35 mix CD onto Soundcloud for a couple of days, to pay tribute to the hero who we’ve sadly lost. The mix was taken down, but you can find so many other memorable and beautiful mixes online, celebrating the achievements of this legend.

I found this mix on Youtube, a mix made by a resident DJ for Bassworx. But there’s an hidden note underneath the mix: the first track on this mix is actually a record specially made for Marcus Intalex, after he passed away by LSB and DRS. It was not only made to show respect, but also to show support towards the family, to assist them with funeral arrangments. And it’s worth whatever you can spend! Epic tune, with a sad undertone.

Not only do you get this beautifully written track, but also a whole lot of Marcus Intalex’s records! 77 in total! Made by him or remixed by this master of Drum & Bass. The tunes have a beautiful feel hanging around them, a myst of heaven. Well. how can you describe his music without using the words ‘heavenly’ and ‘beautiful’? I reckon we might have lost a legend, but heaven gained a superstar DJ and producer. And we’ve got his rich music history to listen to and adore!

The tracklist is beautiful. Check it out.

Now that’s an epic tracklist. It took me half an hour to actually write it, but it was worth it. So many Marcus Intalex tunes are in this mix, and for once a tracklist wasn’t disappointing to write or to read. This mix is a dedication mix to Marcus Intalex, what kind of legend he was. His music was timeless, and so is his legacy. He will remain one of the best Drum & Bass producers/DJs in the world.

DJ Woodle, the one who made this tribute mix, should be proud of this mix. A very carefully selected and mixed mix, and I reckon Marcus is looking down, and smiling. This is seriously a good mix, one of the best mixes I’ve ever heard. It’s a bit long, but also emotional. This will give you feelings you never felt before. Soul touching tracks, carefully mixed by Woodle. Respect to you sir. A true tribute Marcus would have been proud off.

There are so many great anthems in here, I can’t find one bad record. Not one dull or boring. They are all fire! Marcus Intalex was such a talented producer, whatever he made, was fire. And after hearing this nearly 3 hour long mix it made me realise his music will be there forever, so will his name and the contributions he made to the scene. And now I think it’s time for the scene to come together, and give something back to Marcus.

Get the track ‘Angels Fall’ via Bandcamp, and support the family of Marcus. You can never replace him, but by purchasing this record you will not only keep his name and his memory alive, but also his family through this very difficult time. The mix starts and finishes with it, so I think you will donate, I think you should!

Epic mix by Woodle. A tribute like no other. Marcus, rest in peace. Thanks for the music. We will embrace it forever!

DT545 – Laidback Luke (Techno) (2017)

Laidback Luke, a house hold name in the music industry. If you seriously don’t know his name, you are not from this planet. One of ‘Holland’s finest (baby)’. Can’t remember which tune that was from, but he is one of the leading names, taking his passion and dedication all over the world. Laidback Luke is such a big name, you must have seen or heard his name before. Or let’s say: his music.

He’s known for his music, and I can’t remember when I first saw his name on a CD, but it must have been years ago. Way before he had huge succes with member of the Swedish House Mafia, that well known tune ‘Leave The World Behind’. I have to dig through my complete collection to find it out, but one day I will know which CD he appeared on first. He’s been in the scene for so long, you simply can’t picture a scene without him. Maybe you know him from playing at huge events, or maybe from a CD. I seriously wouldn’t have a clue, so let’s focus on the music.

This mix is all about Techno. His love for Techno. And truth be told, I never knew he liked Techno this much! I’ve never spotted a mix done by him which was focussed on Techno. Nor have I heard a Techno tune made by him, it’s always the more EDM side of things that I’ve noticed. But this love for Techno, boy, it’s beautiful! I was as amazed as you can imagine. This man literally can do everything!

Data Transmission asked Luke to make a mix for their podcast series, and they’ve given him the 545th position. Sadly I can say I’ve missed the other 544, but there’s plenty of time for me to listen to the other mixes before it turns Winter again, eh?

Let’s see the tracklist!

01. Pig & Dan – Chemistry
02. Nicolas Masseyeff – Airmass
03. Roberto Capuano – Around
04. Lucy – Cannon Fodder (Planetary Assualt Systems Remix)
05. Joseph Capriati – Basic Elements
06. Alex Bau – Darkhearts (Sasha Carassi Remix)
07. Steve Parker – Fenix The Rat
08. Gary Back – Ars Poetica
09. Sasha Carassi – Genetik (Rich Jones Remix)
10. Surgeon – Zilla
11. Dave Clarke – Wisdom To The Wise (Steve Rachmad Dub)
12. Dave Clarke – Wisdom To The Wise (Original Mix)
13. Surgeon – Badger Bite
14. The Advent – Standers
15. Joseph Capriati – Always & Forever
16. Rob Hes & Patrik Berg – My Moog
17. Giorgio Rusconi & Deborah De Luca – Chain Reaction (D-Unity Remix)
18. Dual Fuel & Linda Sclerotik – It’s In My Soul
19. Kessell – Ecliptica
20. Mechanic Slave – Immigrant
21. Carlos Inc – Noise Confussion
22. Truncate – Breakdown
23. Andre Hommen – Battery Park
24. Cubicolor – Dead End Thrills (Patrice Baumel Remix)

Now I know only 2 % of the artists, it’s not a lot. But it’s about the music, and Laidback Luke keeps the entertainment level extremely high! Yes, I’m ashamed now for not knowing that he’s also a huge name in the Techno scene. I wish I’d knew.

Anyhow, this mix is tight. It’s like he went through his music collection, selected a few randomly, and created this epic mix! He knows how to mix, no doubt about that. We’ve all seen the videos of him playing behind the decks. But this mix shows again how good a DJ he is. From the first to the last second he keeps us dancing, or nodding our heads up and down!

This kind of Techno is just what you need to hear anywhere you like. In your bedroom, at work, on the loo, at the barber… literally anywhere. And no-one can disagree or dislike this mix, because the tunes are banging, and the mix in itself is banging too. Not boring, not repetative, just perfect!

Is there anything Laidback Luke can’t do? I can imagine him not being able to make socks out of some wool and needles. But anything else he can do. A world wide phenomena, that’s what he is. And the mix he has delivered is a phenomena too! Hot as f**k. Yes, I said it.

Best tune? Well, I can’t pick one. Laidback Luke has made it too damn difficult, because they are ALL good! But ‘Wisdom To The Wise’ is probably the best!  5 out of 5 stars from me! And you cannot disagree!

Freestyle Maniacs Hardcore Classics 1992-2002 Early Mix-Tape 002 (2014)

You know it, everyone knows it: I’m a raver. A proper Oldskool/Early Hardcore fanatic. I’m so deeply in love with it, it’s part of my youth. But even though I’m a bit older now, I can still appreciate those memorable tunes, and dance my flabby body around to the awesome beats, basses and melodies. And like you, I sometimes feel the urge to go on a quest to find mixes focussed on the Early sound. Now I know who to normally go to (DJ Promo, DJ Bass-D, Casketkrusher, Ruffneck), but today I found a mix by the Freestyle Maniacs, which focusses on the Early and Millennium Hardcore. How’s that for a Sunday morning start, eh?

This mix might be 3 years old, but the tunes are much older. It’s not about the age, it’s about the impact these tunes still have on thousands/millions of ravers all over the world. And the love for the music can still be heard all over the world: 29.5k+ listeners were happy, and a few of them commented underneath the mix, all saying how much they love these tunes and how awesome this mix is. You get the tunes from 1992 until 2002, when Hardcore became underground again. But the tunes, boy, the tunes are still awesome. The other day I was thinking of ‘Simbiosis’, a tune made by DJ Sim, and I would have never guessed it: it’s in this mix! Seeing these tunes, which made me dance through the 90s and early 00s still bring a huge smile on my face. F**k the media and the government for their hatred towards Hardcore, since it emerged out of nowhere in 1991/1992, it’s still alive like never before.

Sadly the majority of the tunes aren’t played on the mainstages anymore. Only at events where Oldskool is the focus. But these tunes deserve so much more credit. These made a generation rebel against the established order. We were part of something unique, and we all loved it. Thanks Freestyle Maniacs for adding the tracklist, so I can share it with my fellow gabbers!

45. Bodylotion – Hurt You Bad
46. Bodylotion – Make You Dance

Now this is a tracklist and a half! How brilliant does this look? This has got the anthems in it I raved to when I was a little nipper. This takes me back, way back!

Freestyle Maniacs, what have you done to me? I feel like I want to dance throughout this Sunday, and blowing off the dust of my CD collection. Oh wait, there’s no point, because every single one of them has got too many scratches, and can not be played anymore. Oh damn, well, just have to press repeat over and over again.

There are simply too many great anthems in here. From 1992 until 2002, you will find everything you need to make this Sunday a good one. I’m digging the tunes they’ve selected a lot! Smiles for miles, eh?

I simply can’t pick my favourite, there are too many to choose from: ‘Slaves To The Rave’, ‘No Newstyle?’, ‘The First Rebirth’, ‘Fascination’, ‘Woops’, ‘Simbiosis’, ‘Pessa Pessa’… see I told you I couldn’t just pick one.

It’s impressive that they made this mix, with 47 records smashed into an hour long mix. There are some cross fading errors, but nothing too big.

Get this down you. It’s 3 years old, but let this make your Sunday even better! Bring out the ‘my first Sony walkman’, and put this on a cassette (however you are going to do that I don’t know). Bring out the old tracksuits, hippy sunglasses, shave your head, and rave the night away. Hakkûh!

Doughboy – Live at Bubble Bobble 9 (AZ) (2017)

I’ve never heard of Doughboy, and don’t have a clue who he is. Maybe he’s Super Mario’s little nephew? Whoever he is, he’s a massive name from Seattle. He’s worked with labels such as KFA, Contagious Records, Justice Hardcore, Venom Drive and more. Maybe I have seen his name before, but it never stuck on me. Don’t know why, but today I saw a mix on Soundcloud, made by the doughy man, which was recorded at an event called ‘Bubble Bobble 9′. Again, I know nothing about the DJ, or even the event, but it’s time for me to indulge myself into his wonderful world.

This set contains several styles, but it’s called Trapcore. A wide genre, in which anything can happen. And not only do you find tracks by well known names such as Spyro, Alex Prospect, Zero Hero, MOB & Enemy, but also a few of his own productions. So this introduction is quite a good one, you get to hear how he mixes and what he produces. And truth be told, if you get to work with one of the biggest superstars in the UK Hardcore scene Alex Prospect, you must have some talent.

The tracklist was kindly added, so let’s see what called ‘Trapcore’ nowadays…

01. Buku – Front To Back (Bassnectar Remix)
02. Zero Hero – Back Again
03. MOB & Enemy – Get Up
04. Spyro – Original Bad Boy
05. Spyro – Don’t Let Me Down (Bootleg)
06. Alex Prospect x Wilson – Tremors 2017
07. DJ Sike – Bongo Bong (Doughboy Remix)
08. Skrillex & Jauz – Squad Out (Callum Higby Remix)
09. Spyro – Throwin’ Hunna
10. Alex Prospect & Spyro – Up 2 No Good
11. Mitomoro & Doughboy – Burn Up
12. Flux Pavilion & NGHTMRE feat Jamie Lewis – Feel Your Love (Late Remix)
13. Keys N Krates feat Katy B – Save Me
14. Marshmello – Alone (Doughboy Edit)
15. Spyro – How Deep Is Your Love (Bootleg)
16. Major Lazer & Bad Royale – My Number (Callum Higby Edit)
17. Alex Prospect – Need U 100% 2017
18. Falcore & Doughboy – Bout Dis Lyfe
19. Alex Prospect & Doughboy – Hustle
20. Alex Prospect x Spyro – Intoxicated
21. Rain Man & Krysta Youngs – Habit (Callum Higby Remix)
22. Mitomoro – RAVE TOOL 69
23. Keys N Krates feat Aqui – Nothing But Space
24. Spyro – Put Your Hands Up 4 Detroit
25. Flux Pavilion feat Cammie Robinson – Pull The Trigger
26. Outforce & Hartshorn feat MC Riddle – Keep It Mello (Doughboy Remix)

This set is really entertaining. I’ve not heard many Trapcore mixes before, but it’s entertaining. It contains a bit from both worlds, the UK Hardcore scene and the growing EDM scene. And TCD is liking it a lot!

I must say that Doughboy’s set is really good, even though I have never heard or seen the name before. Or heard of the event. But that’s not anything bad to be brutally honest. It’s all about the music, and the music is bouncy. Quite catchy. And I think that Doughboy is or a fan of Spyro or Alex Prospect, you find a lot of their tracks in his liveset.

If I had any more information regarding the event I would have shared it with you all. Instead of, let me just say to you to press play and enjoy this Trapcore set.

I can’t find anything wrong with this set. The tracks are quite good! The best track? ‘Burn Up’.

Time to get excited, let’s see if I can find more Trapcore stuff. I need more, and I want more!!!!

Digital Punk – Supremacy (Liveset) 2015

The internet is such a wonderful place. It’s packed with music, and once you’ve set up an account on Soundcloud, you are entitled to listen to millions of hours of fun! Everything and anything is on there. Including Digital Punk’s set from 2 years ago, recorded at Supremacy. On the 26th of September in the Brabanthallen DJs such as Radical Redemption, Adaro, Ran-D, E-Force, Warface, Miss K8, Luna and more. And let’s not forget the DJ who’s set we are about to listen to: Digital Punk. A headline act who’s played all over the world at the biggest events. But how come I have never heard a set or mix made by him?

Well, I’ve already listened to many sets, and today a button (which is ‘ontdek’ in Dutch) pushed me towards this set. So I gave it a go. And I wasn’t disappointed. Like everyone at Supremacy, it was awesome! Yes, I read the review on Partyflock, and people were only mentioning good things. How can you have a bad time with a killer line-up, and Supremacy already has got a good reputation for being awesome. Put Digital Punk on the line-up and the event just gets better.

If you haven’t heard or seen the name ‘Digital Punk’ before, which strikes me as being odd because his tracks have appeared in so many mixes, let this set be your guide. It contains a lot of his own productions or remixes, so you won’t have a bad day today. You will love this set. And I think it’s time now for the tracklist, isn’t it?

01. Intro Supremacy
02. Digital Punk & MC Nolz – Supreme (Official Supremacy Anthem 2015)
03. Digital Punk & Radical Redemption – Rivers Of Souls
04. B-Freqz – Psycho
05. B-Front & Digital Punk – For The Girls 2015
06. Ran-D & Digital Punk – Rebel To The Grave
07. Frequencerz & Warface – Uber Mash Up
08. Ran-D & Digital Punk – Survivors (E-Force Remix)
09. Sub Zero Project vs Queen – We Will Rock Funky Fresh Beatz (Mash Up)
10. Digital Punk & Warface – Unleash War
11. Radical Redemption – The Black Demon (Digital Punk Remix)
12. Outbreak & Kronos – Click Clack
13. Alpha2 & Jack Of Sound – Das Weite Land
14. Digital Punk & Adaro – Whiplashed
15. Outbreak – Raw From The Heart
16. Requiem – Collateral Damage
17. Digital Punk, Radical Redemption & Crypsis – Blood, Sweat & Tears
18. Alpha2 – Hostile

Yes, it’s Saturday morning and I don’t care. I’m playing this set out loud, waking up the whole neighbourhood. They already know what I’m capable off (my speakers can destroy walls). They know I don’t listen to the conventional music, played on the radio. I listen to the roughest and toughest styles, and if they can’t handle it, they can move to another county.

This contained a few of his own productions, and they do sound extremely good! The people you can hear throughout the set know the words to every song he plays: whenever he fades the music to let the fans sing, they do sing. Sing so loud! They don’t need a microphone, their voices are so loud… blimey! That’s dedication for the music, isn’t it?

Digital Punk’s set is awesome, and 20.7k+ plays show how much people love his style. I do like it too. I’ve enjoyed the whole set. Maybe not the MC, he’s not an added bonus in this case, the music and the skills Digital Punk has as a DJ are beyond what this MC can do. Oh, and I’m not a fan of ‘We Will Rock Funky Fresh Beatz’. That track sounded just too wrong lol.

What’s the best track in this mix? ‘Das Weite Land’ by Alpha2 & Jack Of Sound. Just listen and witness its strength.

Let this set be your guidance throughout this weekend. Is it going to rain, or will the sunshine come back? Who cares, as long as you’ve paid your electricity bill you can turn on your PC, press the ‘on’ button on your speakerset, and turn it right up! Enjoy it like the thousands who witnessed him 2 years ago!

Marshmello Live At Ultra Music Festival 2016

The season of excellent events have emerged, and the weather is so good, I reckon wherever you are on God’s given Earth, you are going to have an epic Summer! Especially when you are in a warmer climate, which you can get in Miami. Miami, does it ever rain there? The sunshine is the one thing everyone sees there, from early mornings to late evenings. Last year an event took place, which doesn’t need an introduction: Ultra Music Festival. And one of the acts there (there were so many top notch artists) was Marshmello. One of the quickest growing superstars within the EDM scene. And who it is, I don’t know. He’s one DJ with a lampshade on his head. Or something that looks similar.

Now normally I listen to the harder stuff, from Hardstyle to Hardcore, but today I came across a set by Marshmello. Not knowing much about him, but what I already knew was that he’s a much loved DJ and producer in the ongrowing EDM scene. He plays at every event imaginable, and he also had probably the biggest mannequin challenge crowd the world has ever scene. Or maybe was that Donald Trump big inauguration (where everyone stood still)? Anyhow, he’s big, and he knows it. Everyone on the world wide web seems to love Marshmello, so I thought that today was going to be a good day to hear what this mysterious man has to offer to the world.

Remember, I’m normally not a fan of EDM, it’s all too bouncy and too happy, and sometimes too cheesy. But boy, I was wrong! This might have been recorded back in 2016, but on the 23rd of June 2017 Marshmello’s set made one Dutchman in Luton extremely happy! Smiles for miles, that’s for sure! Let me show you the tracklist, and you will know what I’m talking about!

Now that’s one packed tracklist, and that’s exactly what you can expect once you hear the first beats and bass coming through your speakers! This is seriously insane, I’ve never really heard a proper Marshmello liveset (or mix), but this has seriously blown me away! My brain is so screwed up right now, I need a cold drink to calm myself down!

The quality of the mix isn’t really that good, you can hear the beats and basses, but they are slightly rough. But that could be because it was aired on a radio station, and maybe the quality has gone down a bit. But what comes through your speakers is seriously sickening! The bass (as low as it can go) is penetrating your skull. I reckon that’s why he wears a lampshade, to make sure that the beats do not demolish his DJ skills!

This is a serious set. A pure party pleasing set. Epic tune after epic tune. How this set can change everything is unbelievable! I was a bit tired this morning, and once I’ve pressed play I was alive, and bouncing up and down on my seat. My colleagues looked funny at me, but I was mello, extremely mello!

I love that he jumps from one style to the next with ease. From Hip Hop/Rap to EDM to whatever is on his USB stick/CD/vinyl (don’t know what he uses). He made the event his, with this killer set. He’s all about spreading love and happiness, and during UMF2016 he dominated the dancefloor in Miami.

He immediately appeared on my wishlist of artists I want to see and hear live. If all his sets are this good, I will have a great time. Don’t know when I can or when, because most events are sold out extremely fast or are too far away from me, but one day it will happen!

I loved the diversity. Thanks Marshmello for this epic mix. Sadly I can’t download it, don’t have Spotify. But I’ve got the press play button, and I will play it so often, I alone will be responsible for at least 650.000 plays! One extremely BIG and fat set!

Favourite record? Every one of them. Even the Bieber stuff. I loved every second!
