Now this is an event I really want to go to. Have seen many promo videos of it online, and each and every video has caught my attention. For many years I’ve been a fan of Drum and Bass, and Jungle, and what better place you can release your love for these two styles than Jungle Mania. To me this is one of those events you need to go to before you die, just to capture the atmosphere and the music. And I’m not the only one who’s intrigued by it: the people who have been have rated it 5 out of 5 stars on Facebook. I don’t know when the next event is, but in the future I’ll do my best to get there, and experience it.

For now I’ve got one set to listen to, which captures the night. DJ Twista and MC Deefa’s set from last year’s Jungle Mania – Carnival Special. Recently I reviewed a mix done by Twista, now it’s time for a liveset. You can heard the fans going absolutely insane, and in all fairness, if you see the tracklist you will know why the people went ape shit! DJ Twista picked the right tracks, and they kept the ravers on the dancefloor going through the night.

Oh, just found out that on the 1st of April they are celebrating 24 years of Jungle Mania (1993-2017). And Twista’s going to be there too. The line-up looks sick. Damn, I wish I could go, I really wanted to go…

This is a dope ass tracklist. I know it’s Sunday morning, and we normally listen to chilled  back music, but come on, let this mix destroy your speakers for once. Your neighbours will thank you, press play right now!

Loved the pace, loved the tracks. And this mix only had 149 listens? How’s that possible?

Twista and Deefa destroyed the dancefloor. MC Deefa (never heard of him before) does his thing well, and gets the crowd hyped up, the way an MC should get the crowd hyped up. No pull-ups, or anything similar, but just pounding beats coming through the speakers.

This combination is one I really should look out for. Twista has done an amazing job at Jungle Mania, and the result is an astonishing liveset. If this doesn’t move you, you’ve probably have your speakers off, or you have an ear infection and can’t hear anything properly. But this liveset is a bad ass one.

Check out this liveset, and be intrigued. I must go to Jungle Mania, I must! If this is what people experience throughout the event, it’s heaven on earth…..

I can’t pick a favourite track, they are all good! Wicked set, wicked tracks!

The first liveset I’ve heard for a long time. I can’t even remember when it was, the last time I heard a liveset!? Anyhow, we should focus on this liveset, which was (sort of) recorded at Pirates vs Ninjas, and the DJ involved is DJ Bustin (yep, the one who you always see with Skampy). He made his US debut at this event, and it was an amazing night (according to him). His set is kind of live, don’t know how you can make a liveset ‘almost live’ as the title mentions, but I don’t care if this was live or not, it still rocks socks!

Breakbeat Hardcore should become more popular, and it’s good to hear that people in the States are opening up and also appreciating it as we do it. Sadly this liveset hasn’t got high listen stats, but we are here to get mixes and livesets heard. And if you are digging Breakbeat and Drum & Bass in one mix, you should check this out! A nicely balanced liveset, from Drum & Bass to Breakbeat Hardcore and backwards. Bustin knows how to please the crowd and the listeners, and this mix is really nice to hear on this dreadful and boring Saturday morning.

Tracklist was added, and it’s one you really need to see!

01. The Prototypes – Abyss (VIP)
02. Wizbit – Capacitor (Bustin & Skampy Remix)
03. Krept & Konan – Letting Go (CLSM Remix)
04. Hamilton – You Had It
05. Bustin & Skampy – Under Mi Sensi
06. Fracus & Darwin vs Reese – Cross The Line
07. Sparkle & Pinnacle – Wishing On A Star (Bustin & Skampy Remix)
08. Dreadzone – Fire In The Dark (Teddy Killaz Remix)
09. Ponder & Wizbit – New Zealand Story (Bustin & Skampy Remix)
10. Noisia – Sweet Dreams
11. Bustin & Skampy – Ain’t Got A Prayer
12. Entity – Stargazer (Reese Remix)
13. Rene Lavice – Hotblooded
14. Bustin & Skampy – Forever Young
15. Bit On The Side – My Immortal

What did I tell you? You needed to see this tracklist! A bit of new stuff, and a few older tunes, some being updated/remixed. A nice set, this must have destroyed the crowd completely!

What I immediately noticed after hearing the mix is the fact that a few tracks used a lot of ‘classic vocals/lyrics’ from well known  tunes. ‘Wishing On A Star’, ‘Ain’t Got A Prayer’, ‘My Immortal’. Is that the new trend? Bringing back old vocals/lyrics?

What’s my favourite tune? ‘You Had It’. Those vocals/lyrics (I know them, but I don’t know the tune it originally came from) will not leave your head. I had a bath, a visit to the toilet, went to the shop, went to work, and still it followed me everywhere.

A very nice liveset (is this live or not? I don’t know, and basically don’t care). Not really fond of the ‘bringing back old lyrics’, but I will get used to it the more I listen to them. I will and must listen to this liveset again, and again. A very nice liveset, this has made my day! Bustin, you are a hero for this wicked set. And the crowd must have embraced you and the tunes you fired at them!

I am a huge Drum and Bass fan, and like most Drum and Bass fans, I follow everything one of the biggest labels in DnB history does. I’m obviously talking about Metalheadz, to me the greatest label of all time. A label started by Kemistry & Storm and Goldie back in 1994, and still going strong 20 years later. A label which has given us amazing tracks by amazing artists, but not only did they release great tracks, they kept the DnB scene alive and kicking. The label and its artists kept the scene alive and kicking, and stayed true to the core. Metalheadz has changed the world’s perspective on DnB, and back in 2011, they showed the people in London why they were still going strong. With an impressive line-up, they made sure that the people who were at the club, were taught about the label’s greatness and the artists influence on the whole scene. Let me name a few artists who played there: Goldie, Total Science, Doc Scott, Ed Rush, Bailey (not Bill Bailey), Storm, Digital, Flight, Lee, Die, Bryan Gee… and the list goes on.

An amazing night, and after browsing for hours on the internet, I found a website which provided a tracklist for this 2 hour long liveset. And it made me a very happy man! I don’t review mixes or livesets without a tracklist, and it’s hard nowadays to find tracklist to ‘older’ mixes, but thankfully this website provided me with one. 2 hours of madness, 2 hours of Total Science, Storm and the legendary Goldie. During their set, they played the best tunes there are. 32 of the world’s greatest DnB records, carefully selected by the DJs. Not only do we get an awesome set by these artists, but they are accompanied by DnB’s finest MCs: Moose and GQ. I reckon that most people out there already heard this mix, and know that this mix is one of the finest sets of all time (12k+ plays already), but we should share the sound and acknowledge that Metalheadz left an impact, an impact we should all embrace. Share the sound if you’ve recently heard it, or simply press play if you haven’t heard it (which I don’t believe, but who am I?).

A tracklist would come in handy, so here it is!

01. SOS – Spacefunk
02. Doc Scott – NHS (Reinforced Shout)
03. Tom & Jerry – All Of My
04. Studio Pressure – Jump MKII

08. Doc Scott – Paradise Lost
09. The Bookworm (LTJ Bukem) – Bookworm
10. Dillinja – The Angels Fell
11. Boymerang – Soul Beat Runna
12. Doc Scott – The Unofficial Ghost
13. Suburban Knights – State Of Art
14. Jazz Cartel – Expand
15. Nasty Habits – Shadow Boxing
16. The Specialist – Deep & Rolling
17. Rollers Instinct – Haze
18. Baby Namboos – Ancoats 2 Zambia

29. Grooverider – Sinister (The Influence Remix)
30. Rufige Kru – Terminator
31. Total Science – Defcon 69
32. Tronik House – Straight Outta Hell (Kevin Saunderson Remix)

This tracklist should show us why these three/four are the best DnB DJs in the world, and it does. I’m not sure if Total Science were at the event as a duo, or maybe not. I wasn’t there, and I regretted it not going. I do hope that they organise such an event near the Netherlands soon, I really want to hear these legends play the finest tunes available.

I can chat for hours and hours how great this mix is, but what I want you to do, is to play it out loud. The combination of these 5/6 artists and putting them all together in a 2 hour slot, is a brilliant idea. This is extremely great to hear, every DJ has got his own opinion when it comes to DnB, and if you blend these three acts together, the result is blinding! The MCs do a great job, hyping up the crowd. Ear pleasing stuff. Not annoying, not being a nuisance. Everything is perfect. And when I say everything, I mean everything!

Metalheadz has been at the top of their game for years, and will continue to do so until the day we all perish. I urge you to share your love for Metalheadz with everyone you know, I will do the same (they will probably have a few items sold from their internet store, sold to a Dutchman who wrote this). I will share my love and passion, just like Total Science, Storm and Goldie have done for many years. This mix is, as the French would say, creme de la creme. Or whatever they would say, I’m not French, and my French … well, I speak English and Dutch, isn’t that enough?

An amazing mix. Excellent as usual, wouldn’t expect anything else from these DJs. Great MCs on the mic. Goosebumps from the first to the last second. Metalheadz 4 Life.
