I’ve been offline for a few days, not looking for new music. My ‘like’ page on Soundcloud is already filled with many mixes I must write a review about. But one I couldn’t let go pass. I simply couldn’t, because you don’t find mixes like this one that often. Yes, you do get dodgy and crappy Techno/House mixes with mostly 2Unlimited tunes in it, some Cappella and Twenty4Seven, but what I want to hear is the older stuff. The classics. The forgotten gems. The beauties. The tunes that made us realise that the music is here to stay. And I found it!

This is the kind of music I grew up with. The tunes that made my youth. I was too damn young to understand the quality of it all, but I still remember hearing these tunes for the first time back during the early years of the 90s. The sickening sound of House/Techno, which paved the way for new styles such as Hardcore House, etc. Negative A created a brand new mix, filled with tunes from 1990 til 1993. The true classics. The records you won’t find on ‘the best of’ album. They mostly have the cheesiest tunes on them, when sometimes you just want to hear the rough stuff. And Negative A’s mix is just what my ears wanted to hear!

The tracklist gave me goosebumps. So old, but oh so good! Let me show you the tunes!

Don’t you think this is a beauty? If you are old (and wise) enough you will know these tunes. These tunes were written on the most basic equipment, if you would compare it to the present day, but the impact it had when it was released, can not be described by anyone. This was the music that shook everyone at their core. This was so ground breaking, even the media didn’t know how to respond to it. They categorised this as the music made by the Devil, but if that was the case, thank you very music, mr Devil.

I wonder what happened to most names on this tracklist. I knew they used a lot of aliases back in the 90s, but I always wonder. Those who made only 1 or 2 records and then decided to leave the scene, would they have expected their tunes to still be played over 25 years later? I don’t think so.

There are way too many fond memories surrounding this kind of music. And each and every track is an underrated masterpiece. Negative A’s mix is just spot on, so many beautiful records, I can’t pick one. I simply can’t. This (to me) has got to be the greatest early Rave/House/Techno mix ever made. This paved the way for Hardcore House, so we should be thankful of what this created.

Negative A, your mix is so sick. Nothing wrong with it. Respect for it. Can’t praise this mix enough. One of the best mixes of all time!

Ps. (sorry this bit is in Dutch): godnondeju. Die oude troep, blijft botergeil!

Laidback Luke, a house hold name in the music industry. If you seriously don’t know his name, you are not from this planet. One of ‘Holland’s finest (baby)’. Can’t remember which tune that was from, but he is one of the leading names, taking his passion and dedication all over the world. Laidback Luke is such a big name, you must have seen or heard his name before. Or let’s say: his music.

He’s known for his music, and I can’t remember when I first saw his name on a CD, but it must have been years ago. Way before he had huge succes with member of the Swedish House Mafia, that well known tune ‘Leave The World Behind’. I have to dig through my complete collection to find it out, but one day I will know which CD he appeared on first. He’s been in the scene for so long, you simply can’t picture a scene without him. Maybe you know him from playing at huge events, or maybe from a CD. I seriously wouldn’t have a clue, so let’s focus on the music.

This mix is all about Techno. His love for Techno. And truth be told, I never knew he liked Techno this much! I’ve never spotted a mix done by him which was focussed on Techno. Nor have I heard a Techno tune made by him, it’s always the more EDM side of things that I’ve noticed. But this love for Techno, boy, it’s beautiful! I was as amazed as you can imagine. This man literally can do everything!

Data Transmission asked Luke to make a mix for their podcast series, and they’ve given him the 545th position. Sadly I can say I’ve missed the other 544, but there’s plenty of time for me to listen to the other mixes before it turns Winter again, eh?

Let’s see the tracklist!

01. Pig & Dan – Chemistry
02. Nicolas Masseyeff – Airmass
03. Roberto Capuano – Around
04. Lucy – Cannon Fodder (Planetary Assualt Systems Remix)
05. Joseph Capriati – Basic Elements
06. Alex Bau – Darkhearts (Sasha Carassi Remix)
07. Steve Parker – Fenix The Rat
08. Gary Back – Ars Poetica
09. Sasha Carassi – Genetik (Rich Jones Remix)
10. Surgeon – Zilla
11. Dave Clarke – Wisdom To The Wise (Steve Rachmad Dub)
12. Dave Clarke – Wisdom To The Wise (Original Mix)
13. Surgeon – Badger Bite
14. The Advent – Standers
15. Joseph Capriati – Always & Forever
16. Rob Hes & Patrik Berg – My Moog
17. Giorgio Rusconi & Deborah De Luca – Chain Reaction (D-Unity Remix)
18. Dual Fuel & Linda Sclerotik – It’s In My Soul
19. Kessell – Ecliptica
20. Mechanic Slave – Immigrant
21. Carlos Inc – Noise Confussion
22. Truncate – Breakdown
23. Andre Hommen – Battery Park
24. Cubicolor – Dead End Thrills (Patrice Baumel Remix)

Now I know only 2 % of the artists, it’s not a lot. But it’s about the music, and Laidback Luke keeps the entertainment level extremely high! Yes, I’m ashamed now for not knowing that he’s also a huge name in the Techno scene. I wish I’d knew.

Anyhow, this mix is tight. It’s like he went through his music collection, selected a few randomly, and created this epic mix! He knows how to mix, no doubt about that. We’ve all seen the videos of him playing behind the decks. But this mix shows again how good a DJ he is. From the first to the last second he keeps us dancing, or nodding our heads up and down!

This kind of Techno is just what you need to hear anywhere you like. In your bedroom, at work, on the loo, at the barber… literally anywhere. And no-one can disagree or dislike this mix, because the tunes are banging, and the mix in itself is banging too. Not boring, not repetative, just perfect!

Is there anything Laidback Luke can’t do? I can imagine him not being able to make socks out of some wool and needles. But anything else he can do. A world wide phenomena, that’s what he is. And the mix he has delivered is a phenomena too! Hot as f**k. Yes, I said it.

Best tune? Well, I can’t pick one. Laidback Luke has made it too damn difficult, because they are ALL good! But ‘Wisdom To The Wise’ is probably the best!  5 out of 5 stars from me! And you cannot disagree!

Bloody Nora, it’s like this weekend is about only two styles: Techno and Trance. And I’ve found yet another mix you all might enjoy! A brand spanking new mix by the mighty Mark Neenan, one of the people behind the succesful Techno label Filth Infatuated. Underneath the mix on Soundcloud you can find a short biography, but I reckon that you’ve seen all the information you needed in previous Mark Neenan/Filth Infatuated reviews, eh?

So, another Techno mix. It’s like Techno is taking over my life at the moment. It’s Techno this, Techno that. The last Techno mix I heard was a mix by Dave The Drummer. And now Mark Neenan. It’s a mix sessions, and the 14th instalment took place, and they asked Mark to come up with a new mix they could broadcast. Don’t know if it’s an online radio show, or just a mix series on Soundcloud, but by asking Mark Neenan for a Techno mix … well, you can’t go wrong, can you?

It’s a nicely balanced mix, some tracks from their own label Filth Infatuated, and some by the DJ himself. A nice and diverse mix, and once you’ve pressed play, you will experience a Saturday evening like never before!

Check the tracklist out now!

01. Darkmode – Bassman (Chris Collins Remix)
02. Louk – Gravelly Hill
03. Darkmode – 909 Raw (Kereni Remix)
04. Energun – Circular Turnaround (Miss Electric Remix)
05. GraGee – Paradigm Shift
06. Mark Neenan – Digital Filth
07. Kozii – Saturday Morning (Marcello Perri Remix)
08. Mark EG vs Nico Kohler – Underworld (The Anxious Remix)
09. Sascha Zastiral – Impetus
10. Mr Peg – Beg Me
11. Zyco – Evil Whales
12. Kereni – Subject 1504
13. Errol Dix – Acid Reflection
14. Lester Fitzpatrick & Jennifer Rambow – Jennifer Rambow 2 (Lester Fitzpatrick Remix)
15. Naked Van Mirk – Superior Traction
16. Car-D – Thirsty
17. Glenn Wilson – Magnetic Fields
18. OB1 – Distorted Reality
19. Mark Neenan – Planned Obsolescence (OB1 Remix)
20. Section One – Harmony Returns
21. 3Phazegenerator – Looter (Naked Van Mirk Remix)
22. Everygreen Symphony – Apocalypse Nears (C-System Remix)
23. Strobe – Dynabrain
24. Lester Fitzpatrick & DJ Skitzo – Work It
25. Trust The Machine – Sweatbox
26. Car-D – Control (Rene Hell Remix)
27. Maxx – Pulse Shaper

That was one hell of a set! Normally during a mix or whatever I look on the internet, but this time I didn’t. I was completely focussed on Mark’s mix, the tracks he selected are quite Dark, minimalistic and Deep. It grabbed my attention from the first to the last second, and not one second has been dull at all.

But does Mark or anyone from his label ever disappoint us? Not me, I’ve been a fan for a few years, and I’m liking their style. Especially the darker Techno, they are good at that! And in this mix you will find a few of those. They sound like they were made by the Devil himself, so dark. But secretly we all love the darker stuff!

Normally I would chat away about the bad records, mixing errors, or something I could find which was wrong, but I can’t today. It’s yet another beautiful mix by Mark Neenan, a very, very fine Techno mix. Let this get you through the weekend, and enlighten you with new music.

Check out this mix, it’s fire. Check out Filth Infatuated, and check out Mark Neenan. But first you need to check if the volume is way up high. That’s the only way you can listen to this mix (with the volume high, very high!)!

Today is a brilliant day. Friday is always a good day, because the weekend is about to arrive, and now it finally came around, it will be a weekend filled with music. For a long time I haven’t heard a proper Techno mix, but after secretly checking out Soundcloud I found something interesting, something that you might like. A mix by the mighty Dave The Drummer a.k.a. D.A.V.E. The Drummer. A name that should ring a bell, if you are a proper Techno fan. He’s been in the scene for so long, it’s hard to imagine a scene without him.

I reckon I first saw his name on an Innercity CD. I’m checking it now, I don’t want to be telling porky pies. Yes, I was telling lies. It was Lisa Lashed’s CD. I thought I saw his name somewhere else, but I can’t remember now, my collection is so huge, I don’t want to go through thousands of discs, hoping to find his name. I do know his name, and that’s all there is to say!

Techno. Tech YES! Techno every second of the day. Techno is a sound/style loved by so many, understood by every fan on God’s given Earth. No matter which country you are in: play a Techno tune and people will go mad. And that’s what it’s all about. This mix is to showcase his skills as a DJ, but also to make sure that everyone around the world are dancing away this weekend. This is their weekend mix. And a seriously good one too!

If you are looking for something new and fresh, I think you’ve found it. Dave The Drummer (or however you want to spell it, with or without the dots) has uploaded a very good and sexylicious Techno mix for us all, celebrating the month June, I reckon? Or whatever the reason might have been for uploading this beauty!

The Techno scene is always booming, I do listen to Techno every so often, but this is yet again a mix with a tracklist I know maybe 1 out of 22 artists. Because the scene is so alive, there are so many names, and for me to remember them all, it’s just not do-able. I know Speedy J (dûh), the king of Techno.

The music is actually good, from lighter stuff to the darker side of Techno. This isn’t a dull mix, Dave keeps the entertainment level very high. And the tracks are highly addictive. You can’t listen to ‘Look What Your Love Has Done To Me’ without singing the words out loud! And it’s so good, this works in my living room, and it also works in my car, or even at a big rave.

Techno, as I’ve said it before in another review, is timeless. Beautifully composed, and when I’m talking about this mix, excellently mixed together by Dave. Download this right now, and let this dominate your weekend. I know it will dominate my weeked.

Haven’t found anything with this mix, and you won’t find anything either. If you find something, write it on a piece of paper, and after you’ve written on it, chuck it down the loo.

So he does this every month? Ok, from now on every month I do get a present, a fresh and exciting mix by Dave! Can’t wait for July!
