Sometimes you see on Soundcloud a mix being reposted, but when a mix is good, you see multiple reposts coming past on your timeline. One of those mixes, well, I couldn’t ignore. Reposted so many times, it was a sign, I reckon. A mix done by stranger, focussed on the Techno side of life, but with a twist. What might that twist be? Well, it’s focussed on 1991 and 1992, as most of us will know it as the pre-Gabber era. This is when Techno became slightly darker and edgier, and created sounds which would be used in the Gabber/Hardcore scene only a few years later.

Most of these tracks are dark, edgy, and yet extremely beautiful. You can hear the Gabber influence in them.Well, I do mean the other way around, Gabber was influenced by this kind of music a lot. And when I say a lot, I do mean a LOT. If this doesn’t make you move, it could mean 2 things: or you are too young and do not understand it, or you are stupid. How can you not like the early Techno sounds? The tracklist will literally blow you away, it certainly will!

stranger, he’s a stranger to me, but his concept mix is one you need to listen to. If you like or dislike Gabber, this is a must listen to mix. Check out the tracklist!

When you hear tunes such as these, it immediately takes you back to the wonderful 90s. The early 90s to be precise. Those wonderful years are still amazing, event though time has flown by so quickly. But the music still remains as good, and the vibes it generates can not be topped by any of the new-age styles at all. Yes, Techno is timeless. There, I’ve said it!

Even to me most of these tunes are unknown. Yes, of course I do know DJPC, Ace The Space (wasn’t that Marc Arcadipane?), Nasty Django, Carl Cox (duh!), Frank De Wulf, but the other artists are not known to me. It’s good to learn from the good old days, and it’s never too late to hallucinate, eh?

stranger’s mix is tight, really tight. He’s picked the right tracks, and the overall feeling I get is happiness. Euphoric from time to time. Which track is the one that made me feel so nostalgic the most? Well, I am a raver, a Gabber, and I love ‘Ritmo Dell Diavolo’. Never heard it being played so slow (is this the original speed?), but even being played slow it makes me get goosebumps. I can just picture ravers at a rave in 1991-1992 and hearing this track for the first time and literally be flabbergasted by its strength and rawness!

stranger, whoever you might be, your mix is dope. Extremely dope. More mixes like this one should appear on my timeline. Please Soundcloud, make it happen!!!!

Thank you to those who reposted this mix. Where would I be without this mix?

Remember a couple of months ago, when TCD was a bit down and miserable, and not knowing if he should continue writing a blog? Remember that? You probably won’t remember that, and that’s a good thing. But there’s something linked to me being miserable and wanted to quite, and DJ Louk. I lost my appetite for reviewing, but for a strange reason I found his mix (previous demo CD mix) and it got me back, right back on track. In a way we’ve got Louk to thank, otherwise TCD would be a thing of the past.

Looking forward now: he’s back with a brand new promo mix, promoting only himself. And it’s a good type of promotion, but does he really need it? He’s a legend. After all, TCD likes him a lot, and what else do you want in life? You want bookings, I understand. That means more than just a written sentence. And with this and his previous mix, the bookings must take place right now. If these mixes don’t get promoters happy and curious, I don’t know what they are after.

He’s made a good and solid mix, with all unknown tracks to me. I was intrigued when I heard his previous mix, so the most logical thing to do is to listen to his latest mix, and the result? Well, you are about to find out!

Yep, it’s a fact, I’ve been out of the Techno scene for too damn long. Only know 1% of the artists, but 0% of the tracks. They are all new and fresh. Couldn’t say if which ones are new and which ones are old.

This has been an amazing journey! Loved every second of it. I found this on Soundcloud, and I reckon I was one of the first to download it, and blasting it through my rental car’s speakers! My God, there are some slammers in this mix. Louk has picked a lot of awesome tracks, and I reckon half of the tracks are German Techno songs and the other American Techno. I could be wrong, and I bet you any money I am.

His flawless style has resulted in yet another amazing demo cd. One he should be proud of. And the track he selected which made me dance like the Techno viking the most is ‘Himmel Und Erde’ by SHDW & Obscure Shape. Sweet Lord, this is beautiful!

In all fairness, if you are not a promoter, you don’t need to worry. You can download this mix and spread the love. But if you are, or you know promoters, you know what you need to do: book Louk for your party, doesn’t matter which part: sweet 16, bar mitswa, birthday parties, christenings, Louk is your man.

Damn, this mix is hot. Seriously hot!

Yesterday I found a mix I would not have found, if I didn’t go and browse the living daylight out of Soundcloud. I was looking for something unique, fresh, and something I haven’t reviewed before, and I found it. You might be thinking of something unique and no-one has ever heard before, but it’s not that unique. It’s oldskool Trance/Techno. And I’m talking about Trance music before it took over the world and became a huge success. It was big in the 90s, but it exploded during the early 00s, and the shape it’s in nowadays isn’t the same like these early tunes. This is the music I grew up with and loved to the bone: I bought literally every music compilation which was focussed on Trance music. And yes, I even went through a phase when Hardcore wasn’t exciting enough, and Trance took over.

This mix can not be downloaded, even though it’s written underneath the mix. Could be that this mix is 4 years old, and the pages you are sent to don’t excist anymore. Which is a pity, in all fairness, because these are the tunes I am after. This has sparked my enthusiasm for early Trance tunes again, and I will go through my collection again, listen to those magical anthems which took the world by storm.

I know absolutely nothing about the DJ, never seen his name before. Maybe he’s just an enthusiastic person who loves to compose mixes, sharing his passion for it. But I can’t say anything else, because I know nothing else. Let’s focus on the mix and the tracklist, eh?

tracklist

01. DJ Quicksilver – Cosmophobia
02. Fridge – Paradise (Nu-Gray Mix)
03. Arpeggiators – Freedom Of Expression (DJ Scot Project Remix)
04. Pulsedriver – Kiss That Sound
05. Plug & Play – Parade 2000
06. Aquaplex Meets Junk Project – Brightness
07. Dejure – Sanctuary
08. Liquid – Nebular B
09. The Olmec Heads – Spiritualised
10. Pulser – Cloudwalking
11. M-Traxx – Summer Love
12. Yves Deruyter – Feel Free
13. Junk Project – Control
14. Cascade – Transcend (Moonman’s Trancendental Flight Remix)
15. Tom Stevens – Outface 2000 (Fridge Remix)
16. The Olmec Heads – Lift Off
17. Parker & Clind – Cosmos
18. Breeder – Twilo Thunder (Stoked Up Mix)
19. Prototype – Sound Piercing
20. Chrome & Price – Automatic (Hitch Hiker & Dumondt Mix)
21. Megamind – Taub (Picotto Mix)
22. Joshua Ryan – Pistolwhip
23. Plastic Angel – Enter The Darkroom (Club Mix)

See, this tracklist is awesome! This takes me back, way back. Back when Trance was new and refreshing. Nowadays it’s a bit bland. That’s why I like to hear mixes like this one.

Don’t know what this mix has got to do with Helter Skelter, and the Technodrome? This ain’t Techno, to be precise. Maybe they played this at Helter Skelter, I don’t know, sadly I’ve never been. But if they did, it must have been an experience of a lifetime, because the music is simply epic!

So many great anthems in here, it’s astonishing to think these tracks have stood the test of time, yet you don’t hear them often anymore. You’ve got to look closely to find them, and when you do, it’s in mixes like this one. Don’t know why the oldskool Trance doesn’t get as much airtime anymore. I do miss it.

This is really an interesting mix. Sadly can’t download it, but you can feel the music coming through your speakers, and the music is good. Maybe a few tiny mixing errors, but it’s still highly enjoyable. Sit back, and enjoy!

Which track is the best? ‘Taub’. It’s filth, that’s what it is!

Soundcloud is filled with billions of mixes. It has to be a billion at least. Which means it’s my kind of heaven. Not many mixes are really liked by me as such, the majority is EDM stuff I really don’t fancy, or mixed really badly, but sometimes you find a mix, and before you press play you already judge the mix by a) the name or b) the artist. In this case I saw the name ‘Mark Archer’ and I immediately assumed that it was an oldskool Rave set, filled with dark and nasty tracks. Oh, how wrong was I? This is the complete opposite. If you were looking for a mix which would astonish you, here it is!

No Oldskool Rave music, but lovely Techno/House music. Calm and sophisticated music, music they only play at clubs where you can’t get a bog standard Coke, but only something in a Martini glass. Clubs where something so normal gets called something so posh (and costs you 10 times more). This music suits this club beautifully. But this isn’t what I was expecting, in all fairness. I would be thinking of Oldskool stuff, so Mark’s mix astonished me once I’ve pressed play. And it was indeed a surprise, but a pleasant surprise.

The tunes he picked are all unknown to me, but once I’ve heard them, they’ve entered my heart forever! Beautiful tracks!

tracklist

01. Gnork – Blorp 93
02. Bakradze – Quiet Loop
03. Bakradze – Pool
04. T. Williams & James Jacob – Lacuna Pursuit
05. Felipe Gordon – Mosaico Andino
06. Books – Thing We Do
07. Badradze – Flight
08. Chaos In The CDB – Midnight In Peckham
09. Giovanni Damico – Joy
10. Haarschnitt – Ion 2a
11. Blutch – Anyoma (Pavane Remix)
12. Gnork – Unreal
13. Emeral City – Gemini Lounge
14. Krato Himself –  See What Eyes See

Do you know any of these names? I’ve never heard of any of them, don’t even know how to pronounce half of them. Gnork? Bakradze? Anyhow, it’s all about the music, and the music…oh… the music is heavenly!

RIOT wrote underneath the mix that the first track was one to listen to, and absorb it. Well, they were right. ‘Blorp 93′ is definately one of the greatest records ever made! So much depth, full of emotions… basically everything you want music to be. This track has blown me away, and I thought that this was the best bit of the mix….

I was wrong. The whole mix is just superb. Quality tunes, and mixed together seemlessly. Nothing to mention which could affect the outcome of this mix, there’s nothing, and I do mean nothing, wrong with this mix. I’ve heard several Mark Archer mixes in the past, and they were all Oldskool mixes, but this tops everything. This is quality over quantity.

I can not point out how awesome these tunes are. ‘Blorp 93’ is just magnificent. But even ‘Gemini Lounge’, or ‘Flight’, or ‘Ion 2a’. You’ve got to hand it to Mark, he knows which tracks to pick, and how to please the listeners.

Yep, it’s a fact. Mark Archer is a God. If you can listen to this mix without shedding a tear, you are inhumane. This will create emotions you haven’t felt in a long time. Breathtaking. Stunning. Excellent!
