Today is a good day. Even though the weather is quite crappy, the music that comes through my speakers today is good. From nice EDM/Dubstep/Drumstep mix to a very good UKG mix by Redhot. When I spotted this earlier, I immediately downloaded it, burned it onto a disc, and did the cleaning of the house. It made it all much better, and made the minutes fly by! But we can talk for hours about me cleaning the house, but that will become the most uninteresting piece you will ever read, so I will keep this discomfort away from you, and only talk about the music.

I’ve never heard of New Movement nor DJ Redhot, but his mix immediately landed in my top 10 list of 2016. Not heard many UKG mixes lately, don’t know why that is, but when I do receive/look for mixes, they are all great! The mix is just spot on, the tunes aren’t boring, Redhot’s mixing is just spot on, and it will brighten your weekend (depending on when you are playing it obviously).

I wasn’t expecting this mix to be this dope, but it clearly was. I felt like cruising down North London with my pimp Volvo S40, windows down, factory standard speaking on loud, and looking cool. This is the perfect mix to enjoy whilst driving. Or doing some housework. Or literally whenever. You can appreciate this whilst making love, or baking a cake, or whatever!

When you press ‘play’ on Soundcloud or whatever you are about to listen to this on, you will not notice the outside world flying by! These 45 minutes of UKG madness will fly pass, and you won’t notice. This will make you go into your comfort zone, and you will feel dreadful the second this mix ends. I really wanted it to go on for hours and hours.

Redhot has picked quite a lot of amazing tunes, and mixes them together nicely, flawless and errorless. A mix like this one does light my UKG spark again, and has caused me to dig through my collection, getting out the old classic anthem compilations. I need more UKG!

New Movement/Redhot’s mix is seriously dope, and insanely good! This brought a smile on my face. This mix proves to me that UKG is timeless: this sounds as cool and dope as the early stuff, and yet it’s brand new!

Credits for this awesome mix. I can not pick one favourite records, because they are all ace! Redhot, your mix is truly red HOT!

Can’t believe this mixtape was released back in 2008! Jeez, time does fly by quickly! Back in 2008 I was a huge fan of Bassline, probably one of the few Dutch people digging it. I was so into it, I downloaded literally every mixtape you could find on the world wide web. Via this search I found TRC and his mixtapes. The music was dope, nothing compared to the music which was produced in the Netherlands, and it grabbed my attention immediately. I became a fan of the producing side of TRC, because he kept releasing tunes after tunes which changed the Bassline scene. He was a pioneer, and when he mentioned that he was going to release an album (I think it had 100 of his own tracks on it) I had to get it. Unbelievable that it was 2008 when these tunes dominated the dancefloors all over the UK.

He was unique and fresh, and no one could copy the way he produced music. I don’t know what happened to Bassline music, I have stopped following it for a long time now, but I don’t think it sounds the same like it did back in 2008. The music from 8 years ago still brings a smile on my face, and makes the speakers in my car bounce up and down. It also makes my tummy go ape, because the bassline literally goes through my system and shakes me internally. The music is so underrated, and so is TRC. This man should get more credit for what he has achieved, the tunes are absolutely insane he produced.

If you are wondering how TRC sounded back in 2008, this mixtape is filled with collaborations. Just witness the tracklist and once you’ve done that, you really want to go back to 2008.

Seriously, when did time decide to fly even faster? 2008? Wow, I remember listening to these mixtapes with my headphone on max, dancing in public transport like an idiot. My God these tunes are good, solid as a rock.

I might be Dutch, but I still feel the vibes these tunes generate. I might not have a clue what the rappers/MCs are saying, but it’s not about what they are saying, it’s about the whole picture. If it sounds right and works well, why worry about the lyrics? Lyrics aren’t important. I only find out what Blud and Bruv meant years after hearing these words (I thought blud had something to do with donating blood, and bruv maybe Belgians making love). Lyrics are important.

You can get this mixtape right now from Bandcamp. TRC was so kind to upload this mixtape, and it’s one you need to have. No matter if it’s 2016, once you’ve press play you are back in 2008.

Best track? ‘Hey Thats My Sound’. Zeo is still one of my favourite MCs. Never knew until today that it was a diss towards Mr V. You are never too old to learn.

Big up TRC. We need Bassline to come back. Bassline sounding like the way he made it.

The other day I was browsing, as usual, and I came across this mix I haven’t listened to for a long time. Back in the golden days of UKG, when mixtapes were released nearly every week, I downloaded one each week, and DJ E1D’s mixtape was one to listen to. I still have a couple of those mixtapes in my UKG folder, and they date back to 2010 (his ‘ALOT’ mixtapes). 5 years ago I used to listen to UKG nearly every day, and to find E1D’s latest mixtape on Soundcloud made my day. It’s his latest mixtape, volume 21, and it’s a good one.

According to E1D’s Facebook page, he started DJing in 1999 and has played with a lot of big names, including Mistajam, The Wideboys, DJ Luck & MC Neat and more. But to me E1D is mostly known for his awesome mixtapes. Yes, I know the last one I downloaded was 1 years ago, which was a TS7 dedication mix, but still his name represents awesome mixtapes. Is this mix as good as his old ones? Well, we are about to find out.

The older ones I’ve got are filled with Bassline music, and the artists names were are all known to me. This volume has got many unknown names, but does that make the music any less interesting? Not really. So let’s find out which names are unknown to me.

Yes, there were some names in this mix I know, but not many. I haven’t followed the ins- and outs of the UKG scene for a long time, so don’t blame me. But it’s never too late to learn, eh?

A proper mix. As tight as his previous mixes. The music is still as exciting and moving as it was 5 years ago. UKG is timeless, and the music is still very catchy. DJ E1D did an excellent job in making an awesome mix. A proper mix, and if you are loving this a lot, you can also download this via another page, and you get the whole mix split-tracked. Check out DJ E1D’s Soundcloud page for more information.

This has made my day. A huge smile has emerged out of nowhere, knowing that he still makes mixes as awesome as he used to. This will spark my enthusiasm for UKG again, and if I’m honest I should listen to it more often. E1D, thank you for making me fall in love with it again.

A proper mix. Nothing wrong with it at all. E1D, your latest mix has been added to my UKG folder, and I will find those volumes I have missed and add them too. I need more UKG.

More new music for you all to embrace. A brand new mix was sent to me the other day via Facebook, and it’s a  new mix made by DJ Retro and Nition, and it’s called ‘The 4×4 Skank & Vibes Volume 1′. You should really give this one a go, seeing as it’s a good one, judging the mix and the tracklist. It’s filled with 17 bangers, and were carefully mixed by Retro & Nition. Worth a download, to be honest.

This isn’t the first time I’ve reviewed a Nition mix, but I can’t remember if I had the honour of reviewing a Retro mix before. The previous website got deleted, and the reviews have disappeared completely. So sorry if I’m not sure, but at least I’m listening and reviewing this mix right now, eh?

The mix is jam packed with a lot of Organ House/Speed Garage/Deep House/Tech House/Bassline tunes, and the feeling you get when the mix is playing, is of pure bliss. Nothing can change your mood, this is really a good mix, the tunes they’ve selected are all good, even the ‘Call Me Maybe’ remix. I know it’s the world’s most annoying song, but this version makes the song acceptable. Curious yet? You want to see the tracklist?

tracklist

01. Sallis – Soundboy
02. JG feat K Dot – Off Wi Their Head (New Skool Remix)
03. Retro & Nition – Its Your World (Bassline Remix)
04. SKL Production feat Carly Rae Jepson – Call Me Maybe (Bassline Remix)
05. Chronicle – All The Things (DJ Nition Special)
06. Retro & Nition – Gecko (Bassline Remix)
07. DJ Zeesh – Tight Up Skirt (Bassline Remix)
08. Nastee Boi – Back II Life
09. Retro & Nition – Full Attention
10. Mystery – Incredible
11. Nastee Boi – Save It
12. Krissi B – Grrrrrr
13. TRC – I Just (Dub)
14. Chronicle – I Feel You (DJ Nition Special)
15. Nay Nay – Im On It VIP
16. Retro & Nition – Never Say Never
17. Nastee Boi feat MC Bonez – Roll Like That

See, I told you that the tracklist does look gorgeous. It’s nice to see and hear their own productions and remixes in it aswel, and before you all get hyped up too much, you should press play and download it at the same time.

The mix is rather excellent, and even though there are a couple of small errors (mixing into the next track does go slightly bonkers sometimes), it’s a good mix. A nice and calm mix, one mix you really should embrace.

The best track in this mix? Oh, that’s a difficult one, but I have to choose ‘Never Say Never’. Such a wicked track, good vocals, nicely balanced track by Retro & Nition. They are on fire.

A solid mix, with excellent tracks in it. Carefully selected by Retro & Nition. A good first instalment, can’t wait for the second instalment.

Damn, I can’t get ‘Call Me Maybe’ out of my head. Arrrrghhh.
