Andy The Core – Back In Tha Past (2006-2009 Hardcore) (2014)

Andy The Core
Van Martin van Zeelandt

The internet is filled with hours of music, and if you look closely, you will find awesome mixes, and that’s what we all want. Yesterday, after browsing for hours, I found this mix, made by Andy The Core, a mix dedicated to the awesome Hardcore years between 2006 and 2009. Some say that they are the best years, some say that the 90s were the best. I would say they are both good, around 2006 I fell in love with Hardcore yet again, Around 2000 the music scene completely changed, the people changed, the whole outcome was dreadful. The music went back underground again, and the majority decided to abandon ship. I was one of them, I wasn’t pleased with the direction the sound was going, but I still listened to the 90s Hardcore again and again. My enthusiasm returned around 2005, just in time to witness the resurrection of Hardcore. Hardcore slowely started to be appreciated yet again by the majority. I opened my mind yet again for the music, and I embraced it with both arms. The result? Well, I was born a raver, and I will die a raver. Where would I be without Hardcore?

Andy The Core is name that I’ve seen on the internet, but never heard before, or seen before at a rave. He’s an Italian Industrial Hardcore/Hardcore DJ and producer, and he’s co-owner of Digital Plague Records. His tracks have been released on many labels, and 11K+ fans seem to adore everything what he does. His name does ring a bell, yet he’s a bit of a mystery to me. Thank God for the internet, for giving us all the information we need, eh? What I do know, is that he’s a Hardcore DJ, and that’s all we need to know. If you love Hardcore, you are one of us. On his Soundcloud page, he added above the tracklist that he made this mix to remember some tunes from the past he loved. Damn right, it’s jam packed with awesome tunes. It might be completely different to what he plays now, but we share a mutual love for Hardcore, and if you see the tracklist, your jaw will drop! 2 1/2 hour of Hardcore madness, name another DJ who uploads a mix longer than an hour/ 1 1/2 hour!

An amazing looking tracklist! I know each and every track, which is impressive to start with. And I love most of them to be honest, there are a few here and there which are a bit meh. But on the whole this is quite impressive, this tracklist!

I reckon, because Andy The Core is Italian, that his roots are the main reason why you find a lot of Italian tracks in here (made by Italian producers). Tracks by Mad Dog, Amnesys, Art Of Fighters, The Stunned Guys, and the list goes on. He’s a huge fan of the Italian side of Hardcore, and we can’t blame him for that: the Italians have done so much to the Hardcore scene, we love the Italians a lot. I do love Italian Hardcore a lot, just my cup of tea!

There are several moments during the mix where the tracks skip a lot, not skipping a lot, but microseconds. Maybe the scratches on the discs have ruined them, or maybe there was a recording error, but it has ruined a couple of amazing tracks. And the mixing at certain moments isn’t gorgeous, but then again, it’s f**king Hardcore, it’s not made to be nice, it’s made to be nasty. But if you are as picky as I am, it’s quite annoying. It doesn’t happen a lot, but when it does, you will hear it. Shame really, because it’s a good mix. With these small errors it doesn’t become a shite mix, it’s still banging though. He still get’s a high score, because it doesn’t happen very often.

A good mix, make sure you download it, and witness the strength of Hardcore from the golden years 2006 until 2009. Can’t believe time has flown by so quickly: it was only yesterday to me.

Andy The Core, a name you should follow. A name you should bookmark in your thick skull. But I reckon you have already done that.
