Synapse – Enzyme Outbreak Podcast (2017)

Van Martin van Zeelandt

Who doesn’t know the record label Enzyme Records? They have been on top of their game since the label was created, and when they just started, I became an instant fan of their unique and fresh sound. From time to time so extremely dark, the majority of people wouldn’t even understand the strength and diversity of it. But Enzyme is a well established name, and they’ve been game changers. And if you were looking for something Enzyme related, look no further! You are hitting two birds with one stone: a free mix and an event in November!

Yes, you read it right: an event in November in Hengelo, The Netherlands. And the line-up is sick. Seriously sick: Amada, Bloodcage, Cruel Intentions, Decipher, Ruffneck, The Weaver, Enzyme X, Hamunaptra, Ophidian, Prowler, Mindustries, Miss Hysteria, Synapse, Thrasher and more. How about that?! That’s seriously impressive, to have such a good line-up. The scene’s finest artists are coming together at this event, and to get you all excited, Synapse made a promo mix. And as you would expect, no bullshit records, only the best of the best. The roughest and toughest records will be played.

Not only does the line-up look tremendously good, the tracklist is also astonishing! Check this out, Synapse has done a great job with this:

Doesn’t this look like a thing of beauty? So many great records by great names such as Mindustries, The Outside Agency, Ruffneck, Ophidian… goosebumps. That’s what this mix has caused.

The first time I pressed play I was a bit startled. Didn’t know what to expect after hearing ‘Everybody’s House’. A bit weird, but likeable. Straight after that record the beats, basses and melodies kept hitting us in the face over and over again. It was blinding, this set. Got only positive credit for Synapse, for creating such a wonderful mix.

But… yes, there’s a but. What in God’s f**king name was the last couple of seconds? ‘Ripley’s Lament’? WTF was that? That killed the end of the mix for me completely. I was expecting something quirky, but this just didn’t sound right in this mix.

A good solid mix (until the last record). If you are digging this, make sure you go to the event. You get this and a whole lot more! The line-up looks great, and frankly, does Enzyme ever let us down?

Ps. I couldn’t pick a favourite record as I normally do, because there were too many to pick from. Just a great tracklist!
