If you have Facebook, and you are friends with Shaun Banger Scott, you know what I’m probably going to say. You’ve probably been tagged a million times, and seen this mix on your timeline so much. If you do know what I’m talking about, you are part of the entourage. The SBS entourage. He’s tagged you for a reason (and myself included), to get everyone hyped up for the event which took place a few days ago. Niche, a legendary club, is back. Has it really left? Has it really? I don’t think it has. It’s still alive and kicking in the majority of those who went clubbing there during the heydays of Bassline music.

I was too late. Not only for the last event, but to actually go to the original Niche club. I was so into Bassline music, I became a Niche member (well, membership). Bought myself a jacket, and was hyping myself up to the max to visit the club, and then the news hit me: the club was closed. I was so gutted. Maybe cried a bit. But seriously, I was this close of actually going out and experience what everyone already has. It’s good that it’s still alive and kicking, with one of the pioneers of the sound still pushing it forward: Shaun Banger Scott.

His set was recorded back in 2006, when Niche was touring and hit London. I can’t say anything about that event, because I wasn’t there, and there’s no information online. It’s all about the music, and thanks to SBS for sending me the tracklist. It’s been a while since I last heard a Niche/SBS mix, but it’s time for it. And here’s the tracklist!

tracklist TCD

I was talking to SBS earlier, and I asked him if this set was really recorded back in 2006 and not in 2016. He confirmed it, it was  2006. 11 years ago, and it’s still sounding fresh as a daisy. 11 years old. These tunes might be ‘old’, but they still have the capability to destroy speakers.

These tunes made me happy, and they made me reminisce to those wonderful years, when I discovered Niche and SBS and all those wonderful artists, DJs and MCs. It dominated my life, even though I lived (back then) in the Netherlands. And I was probably the whitest person who enjoyed this magical music.

It’s good to hear that it’s still alive, and that there are people all over the UK still dancing to the wonderful tunes from the late 90s until the mid 00s. Shaun Banger Scott is one of those names who keeps it alive, and you can tell that he loves it. Not only the fact he tagged us 1643823 times in a post, but also because of the fact that his Soundcloud page is filled with hours of fun, and his latest mix is a good ‘un. It’s got some bangers in here, and probably the finest tune he saved until last!

A wonderful liveset, 11 years old, but still sounding fresh. SBS might have dominated in the past, truth be told: he’s still dominated the present and the future, and he’s still one of the leading names in the 4×4, Bassline and Speed Garage scene.

After hearing this mix I will forgive him for tagging me. It was worth it!

Can’t believe this mixtape was released back in 2008! Jeez, time does fly by quickly! Back in 2008 I was a huge fan of Bassline, probably one of the few Dutch people digging it. I was so into it, I downloaded literally every mixtape you could find on the world wide web. Via this search I found TRC and his mixtapes. The music was dope, nothing compared to the music which was produced in the Netherlands, and it grabbed my attention immediately. I became a fan of the producing side of TRC, because he kept releasing tunes after tunes which changed the Bassline scene. He was a pioneer, and when he mentioned that he was going to release an album (I think it had 100 of his own tracks on it) I had to get it. Unbelievable that it was 2008 when these tunes dominated the dancefloors all over the UK.

He was unique and fresh, and no one could copy the way he produced music. I don’t know what happened to Bassline music, I have stopped following it for a long time now, but I don’t think it sounds the same like it did back in 2008. The music from 8 years ago still brings a smile on my face, and makes the speakers in my car bounce up and down. It also makes my tummy go ape, because the bassline literally goes through my system and shakes me internally. The music is so underrated, and so is TRC. This man should get more credit for what he has achieved, the tunes are absolutely insane he produced.

If you are wondering how TRC sounded back in 2008, this mixtape is filled with collaborations. Just witness the tracklist and once you’ve done that, you really want to go back to 2008.

07. TRC x Natz – Can’t Wait
08. TRC x Zoe – Story Of My Life
09. TRC x Krepz – Missing My Baby
10. TRC x Rae Rae – Ok To Rave
11. TRC x Zeo – 141
12. TRC x Zeo – Hey Thats My Sound (Mr V Diss)
13. Screama feat Teresa – Let Me Know (TRC Remix)

16. TRC x Speedy x BODR – You Don’t Know
17. TRC x H20 X Miss Fire – Falling
18. TRC x Kaye x Screama – You’ve Changed

Seriously, when did time decide to fly even faster? 2008? Wow, I remember listening to these mixtapes with my headphone on max, dancing in public transport like an idiot. My God these tunes are good, solid as a rock.

I might be Dutch, but I still feel the vibes these tunes generate. I might not have a clue what the rappers/MCs are saying, but it’s not about what they are saying, it’s about the whole picture. If it sounds right and works well, why worry about the lyrics? Lyrics aren’t important. I only find out what Blud and Bruv meant years after hearing these words (I thought blud had something to do with donating blood, and bruv maybe Belgians making love). Lyrics are important.

You can get this mixtape right now from Bandcamp. TRC was so kind to upload this mixtape, and it’s one you need to have. No matter if it’s 2016, once you’ve press play you are back in 2008.

Best track? ‘Hey Thats My Sound’. Zeo is still one of my favourite MCs. Never knew until today that it was a diss towards Mr V. You are never too old to learn.

Big up TRC. We need Bassline to come back. Bassline sounding like the way he made it.

More new music for you all to embrace. A brand new mix was sent to me the other day via Facebook, and it’s a  new mix made by DJ Retro and Nition, and it’s called ‘The 4×4 Skank & Vibes Volume 1′. You should really give this one a go, seeing as it’s a good one, judging the mix and the tracklist. It’s filled with 17 bangers, and were carefully mixed by Retro & Nition. Worth a download, to be honest.

This isn’t the first time I’ve reviewed a Nition mix, but I can’t remember if I had the honour of reviewing a Retro mix before. The previous website got deleted, and the reviews have disappeared completely. So sorry if I’m not sure, but at least I’m listening and reviewing this mix right now, eh?

The mix is jam packed with a lot of Organ House/Speed Garage/Deep House/Tech House/Bassline tunes, and the feeling you get when the mix is playing, is of pure bliss. Nothing can change your mood, this is really a good mix, the tunes they’ve selected are all good, even the ‘Call Me Maybe’ remix. I know it’s the world’s most annoying song, but this version makes the song acceptable. Curious yet? You want to see the tracklist?

01. Sallis – Soundboy
02. JG feat K Dot – Off Wi Their Head (New Skool Remix)
03. Retro & Nition – Its Your World (Bassline Remix)
04. SKL Production feat Carly Rae Jepson – Call Me Maybe (Bassline Remix)
05. Chronicle – All The Things (DJ Nition Special)
06. Retro & Nition – Gecko (Bassline Remix)
07. DJ Zeesh – Tight Up Skirt (Bassline Remix)
08. Nastee Boi – Back II Life
09. Retro & Nition – Full Attention
10. Mystery – Incredible
11. Nastee Boi – Save It
12. Krissi B – Grrrrrr
13. TRC – I Just (Dub)
14. Chronicle – I Feel You (DJ Nition Special)
15. Nay Nay – Im On It VIP
16. Retro & Nition – Never Say Never
17. Nastee Boi feat MC Bonez – Roll Like That

See, I told you that the tracklist does look gorgeous. It’s nice to see and hear their own productions and remixes in it aswel, and before you all get hyped up too much, you should press play and download it at the same time.

The mix is rather excellent, and even though there are a couple of small errors (mixing into the next track does go slightly bonkers sometimes), it’s a good mix. A nice and calm mix, one mix you really should embrace.

The best track in this mix? Oh, that’s a difficult one, but I have to choose ‘Never Say Never’. Such a wicked track, good vocals, nicely balanced track by Retro & Nition. They are on fire.

A solid mix, with excellent tracks in it. Carefully selected by Retro & Nition. A good first instalment, can’t wait for the second instalment.

Damn, I can’t get ‘Call Me Maybe’ out of my head. Arrrrghhh.

It’s A Lot! The TS7 Tribute Mix – DJ E1D (2010)

Now, God only knows how I found this mix?! Maybe on Twitter, maybe on Facebook, I honestly don’t have a clue. But after a link took me to Soundcloud, my day changed radically! A proper TS7 tribute mix, one of my Bassline heroes from back in the days,  made by one of the DJs that spark my enthusiasm when Bassline mixtapes were made frequently, E1D. I can remember the good old days, when every up and coming DJ made a mixtape every month, and it was jam packed with fresh and uplifting Bassline music. I still have those folders, a few were made by DJ E1D. They were sh*t hot, everyone wanted to download them when they were released, and it caused mayhem on the world wide web: servers weren’t able to answers all those requests, and frequently crashed, and when it did, it crashed hard… I miss those days.

I really wanted to add more information here, regarding TS7, but the world wide web is messing up (wow, I just talk about sh*te internet, and got it straight away). This very talented DJ and producer, who’s specialised in Bassline music, has made memorable tunes, alongside the best female vocalists. When Bassline was a huge thing (not over here in the Netherlands), TS7’s fame grew and grew, just because of the fact that his tunes were made for the dancefloor. Everywhere you went, you heard Bassline coming out speakers, and I reckon 80 % of the tunes played, were made by TS7. And as a tribute to his achievements as a producer, E1D made this tribute mix, and I’ve got to say, I wasn’t expecting it to be this good! So many great tunes, you don’t hear them anymore. I don’t know what has happened to Bassline, but I do miss the good old days.

This mix was recorded back in 2010, and recently uploaded onto Soundcloud. Don’t know why E1D waited so long, but it’s worth the wait. What a monster mix! Oh, you want to see a tracklist? Here it is!

01. TS7 – Ed Hardy (E1D Special)
02. TS7 – Flip Flop
03. TS7 feat Tonia – Smile

05. Platnum – Love Shy (Thinking About You) (TS7 Remix)
06. TS7 – Scorcher
07. TS7 feat Addictive – Candy Rain
08. TS7 – What Ya Mean
09. TS7 feat Haynzy – Falling Alone
10. CRW – I Feel Love (TS7 Remix)
11. Estelle feat Kany West – American Boy (TS7 Remix)
12. TS7 feat Slick Don & Specks – All Night Long
13. TS7 feat Teresa – End With Goodnight
14. TS7 feat Bianca G – Tired Of Waiting
15. TS7 – Black Ice

23. TS7 feat Sarah Jane – Touch Me
24. TS7 feat MC Bonez – Standard (Ed Hardy)
25. TS7 feat Kaylee – Keep Hurting You

Seriously insane tracklist! Every track E1D used to make this tribute mix, is known to me. Not a single unknown track! See, that’s TS7’s strength as a producer. Very talented, spot on when it comes to the music. Amazing tracks, some I haven’t heard for a while, but I can still sing along/bounce along to. Abso-f**king-lutely amazing!

The one that made me bounce the hardest (I bounce, because I’m extremely white) has to be ‘All Night Long’. Loved the combination, Specks and Slick Don alongside TS7. Sexy videoclip too, if you can remember it? That’s my favourite TS7 track of all time, but there are more good ones in this mix. You will have a different opinion, and you can, I’m not forbidden you to have a different track in mind. But what I want you to do, is to share your love for TS7. Download this mix, burn it onto a disc (that’s how we rolled back in 2010), and play it out loud in your car.

A good tribute mix by E1D. If you want to hear more similar mixes, why not go to his Soundcloud page? There are several tribute mixes! If you are a MJ Cole, Agent X, Booda or TRC fan, check them out! Or if you want older mixtapes, they are all for free!

Anyone got a time machine? I want to go back to 2010!! Good music was made then!
