Pod Noodle Episode 1 – Alexander Norman (2018)

I was asked today to review one of the biggest mixtapes in the UK Hardcore scene right now: the Pod Noodle podcast. You might be wondering what the hell I’m on about? Should it be pot noodle? Nah, that’s the one you shove down your neck, but this one is a word play on pot noodle. Don’t know why they’ve selected this name, but who cares? I’ve seen worst names. Anyway, let’s focus on the music, and not the title of the mix/podcast. The music is presented to us by Alexander Norman. And if your mind works the same way as mine, I had to think really hard who this man is. I was wrong, it’s not one name but two: Ed Shock and MC Whizzkid. They have joined forces and this new collaboration is named Alexander Norman. Read More

Jakka-B & Mc Whizzkid Live @ Westfest 2017

I don’t need to tell you that Westfest is one of the most amazing events to go to. This year’s event took place on the 28th of October at the Bath & West Showground, Shepton Mallet. And this year’s theme was Halloween – The Day Of The Dead. And you had many areas where you could let yourself go: from the Mainstage to the One Nation area (Drum & Bass), to The Blast And Bodynod (Bass/Bassline/Grime) to Hardcore Heaven (Hardcore) to Garage Nation (UK Garage) to HDUK (Hardstyle & Gabba) and Banjax (House). So if you are a fan of DnB and don’t like any other styles, there’s a room for you. If you love UKG and Hardcore, it’s rather difficult to choose, but you have to. This event caters to everyone who love dance music, and it had good reviews over the years. And the first set I found online was Jakka-B’s set with the microphone legend MC Whizzkid.

It’s been years since I last heard a set with MC Whizzkid, I simply don’t seem to come across any on Soundcloud (or maybe I’m not looking enough?). He’s one of the first MCs who got me into UK Hardcore, and it’s always a blessing to hear this mighty microphone magician. And teaming up with one of the fastest rising stars in the UK Hardcore scene: Jakka-B/Jakka B (or however you want to spell it). And what these two badboys have done is something else. Jakka-B took his music to the stage, and made this set so special: all time classics with the present day twist to it. But still remaining true to the sound that we loved. I don’t know how, but he has captured a long lost sound in this set, and accompanied by MC Whizzkid it took me way back, to the days when I was still buying mixtapes nearly every bloody month (was difficult to get them sent abroad).

Let me show you the tracklist, and it’s a blindingly good set. Jakka-B and Whizzkid demolished the Hardcore Heaven area, that’s for sure.

A lot of Jakka-B’s own productions in here, and they are awesome records. Of course it’s not all about Jakka-B, but also about MC Whizzkid. It’s good to hear those classic lyrics, those which made Whizzkid the superstar MC who we all love and embrace. combined with a few new ones I haven’t heard before.

Jakka captures the old vibes well with his set. New and old records go hand in hand, and some got the 2017 treatment (remix/refix/mashup). With a stunning tracklist, good DJ skills and a excellent MC the party isn’t complete: you need the whistling crowd. And they were present. Shouting/screaming throughout the set, whilst MC Whizzkid congratulated people, MCing, Jakka-B doing his thing behind the decks… it all made sense.

This combination worked extremely well. The music suited MC Whizzkid, and his lyrics went extremely well alongside these monster anthems. Best record? ‘Light Show’. Can you not sing a long when this record comes on?

A seriously insane set by two legends. One is up and coming, and the other is probably the dopest MC out there. This flawless set is much nicer to hear than the usual radio crap we get to hear every where we go. Christmas music can suck donkey balls, this is 1038767942 times better.

Best set by Jakka-B ever. His first time playing at Hardcore Heaven, but it was worth it. Discover this man like many already have, and embrace this set. Pure UK Hardcore heaven. Legendary set!
