A couple of weeks ago something appeared on my timeline on Facebook, and immediately I was intrigued by it. A mix so extraordinary, never done before. Now a mix is not something new, but what Reflux has done has never been made before. 1 DJ and 6 MCs on one mix! The first in UK Hardcore history, and not only that: 7 labels too! This mix is all about diversity, and you can hear it throughout the mix! Lethal Theory, Futureworld Records, Scarred Digital, Demo Sessions, The Future Of Hardcore, Mood Swings and Broken Records, all united in one mix! Hence the title of this mix, labels unite.

Reflux is the man behind the decks, playing the finest tunes, and the 6 MCs behind the microphones are MC B, Thunda, Jack, Fluid, Leggett and Vibrance. What they bring to the table is their own perspective on MCing, and throughout this mix you can hear that diversity is still important, and also being unique. There are copycats out there, but these 6 MCs have created their own style. Normally I would go on and on about the artists, but talking about 7 artists in a review is just too much. You do the right thing and Facebook/Google them.

Some new tracks and a few old tracks, that’s all you need to make an excellent mix. The mix not only has got UK Hardcore but also Drum & Bass and the underrated sound called Dubcore/Drumcore. I know there are people out there who dislike people naming it Dubcore/Drumcore, but who cares?

The tracklist is one you need to see. After hearing months of Christmas shite you will dig this. It’s gorgeous.

01. Matrix & Futurebound – Don’t Look Back (Instrumental)
02. Dextone – Don’t Need You

10. I See Monstas – Messiah (Chris Unknown & Re-Con Remix)
11. Wasted Penguinz & Vegas – Wait For You (Triplestar & Olly P Edit)
12. Darren Styles – Get This Place
13. Darren Styles & Re-Con feat Matthew Steeper – Rest Of Your Life (Macks Wolf ‘Domino’ Edit’)

24. Chris Unknown – Get Down
25. Re-Con – Touch The Stars

The first thing you and I have noticed are the amount of Darren Styles tracks. Looks like Reflux is a fan boy (and who isn’t?). Turns out that MCs like MCing during Darren Styles tracks. A lot of DS tracks, which shows how good he is as a producer, hit after hit. But it’s not all about DS, it’s about Reflux and his MC team.

The MCs did their best, and the result is excellent! Loving the vibes, loving their dedication to make this mix the best one of 2015. Loving each and every MC who did their thing for this mix. It was tough for one MC seeing as she’s the only female MC, but Vibrance made sure that she delivered her lyrics as good as her male colleagues. It’s time for more female MCs, if they are as good as Vibrance, it’s time! Maybe the next mix could do the oppossite: 5 female and 1 male MC??

Who’s the best MC? They all are! Not going to pick out one MC, because they all deliver. Differently, but it makes this mix even better!

Ok, time to pick my favourite track. I have to say that I dig each and every track, but the one that took me by surprise has got to be ‘Burn The House’ by Reflux and Jekyll. Love this track a lot, it stands out in this mix.

Probably my last review of 2015, and to end with a mix as good as this one, who would have thought? Reflux and his MC team have delivered an awesome mix, and it’s a good way to end 2015. It’s a showcase of 2016 is going to offer for us UK Hardcore fans. The scene is alive and kicking!

There’s a podcast out there I have never heard of!? Should I be ashamed? Well, I am a bit, but it’s not too late to listen to it. It’s a podcast series which is called ‘Keep It Ob’ecore’, presented by DJ S.I.D.R. Maybe a weird question, but bare in mind that I’m from the Netherlands and have never heard of this term before, but what it ‘Ob’ecore’? Post your answer underneath this review, and if you do, I would like to say thank you. Let’s talk about the podcast.

The podcast is presented by DJ S.I.D.R., who is a DJ from Moscow, Russia, and the latest instalment of his podcast series has a very special guest DJ, no other than DJ Sc@r. The legendary female DJ from Australia has sent her mix, and the last 20 minutes you can hear her play the finest Happy Hardcore tunes she ever made, remixed or released on her label ‘Scarred Digital’. What you can expect is an hour of happy Hardcore music, and the first bit, which is mixed by S.I.D.R. has got a lot to offer to: from those well known dancefloor smashers to the relatively unknown anthems.

No talking through the tracks at all, just pure music. Well, nearly no talking, Sc@r announces that she’s sponsored by vodka and something else. Hopefully she wasn’t too drunk when she made this awesome mix. Her section is jam packed with her older stuff, the proper Happy Hardcore stuff I do miss nowadays.

Let’s see the tracks.

A wonderful tracklist, it has to be said. Both DJs have selected awesome tracks, and the end result is an amazing podcast. Breathtakingly beautiful!

In the first mix you can find some known and unknown tracks, also a few own productions and remixes by S.I.D.R. The selection is quite good, and if you look closely on his Soundcloud page, you can find out which tracks are actually free. Check out the page, I would urge you. His selection is jam packed with tracks from labels such as Nu Age Hardcore, Together We Rise, Future World, Scarred Digital and more. Not bound to one style or label, this mix has got everything you want to hear.

Sc@r’s selection is as good as always. Hearing those oldskool classic anthems again brought a smile on my face. Most of her tracks were released on her own label or on Raw Elements, and they are all great! From the first to the last second it gave me the urge to stand up from my seat and start raving. And yes, even her remix of ‘XTC…’ has made me want to move. Still not my favourite, but getting there slowely.

A good podcast, one you need to look out for. This instalment is an exquisite one, because it has the legendary Sc@r as a guest DJ, and who doesn’t want to hear her mix all of her favourite and most known tracks ?

Not downloadable. That’s sad.

The most awesome female DJ is back with a brand new mix! She was asked to fabricate a mix for the Rev Up Podcast, and now she’s uploaded the whole mix onto her Soundcloud! How awesome is that? Well, there are many reasons why it’s cool, one of them being that this is a Sc@r mix! Since day 1 I’m a fan, and you’ve known this since I started this review website. She’s definately my number 1 female UK Hardcore DJ. No one can compete with her, she’s the best! Winning an award at the Hardcore Heaven Awards has shown us all why she’s the best, and to this day she keeps on entertaining us music lovers. Even though she moved to Australia, she makes sure that the people in Europe will hear from this legend, the mastermind behind the label Scarred Digital. Want to know more reasons why she’s awesome? Well, go to her Soundcloud page, listen to her older stuff, and you will fall in love!

She has given us memorable mixes in the past, and every so often she uploads brand new mixes, mainly mixes she made for podcasts or mix series. The one she made for Rev Up is as cheerful and happy as her previous mixes, and it demonstrates why she’s number 1. She has jam packed 14 tracks in a 26 minute mix, and the result is a very cheerful mix. Only Sc@r can do that properly. If you need proof, go to her Soundcloud and check out the mixes that made her famous, mixes that shook the UK Hardcore scene. Her label did the same, and to this day they keep on releasing amazing tunes, some which you can find in this mix. Worth a listen, I would say.

Sc@r rocks, but does this mix rock too?

01. Fallon & Jenny J – Without You
02. Andy Wilson – By My Side
03. IYF & Emi – I’ll Be There
04. S.I.D.R., Spolor & Sunforce – You Don’t Know
05. S3RL feat Minto – Old Stuff
06. Scott Brown – I’ll Be Yours (JTS Remix)
07. Sc@r, Jakka-B & Keigleigh – Do You Remember
08. Fallon & Roxie – Suffocate
09. Andy Wilson – Give Me Forever
10. Sc@r – Lovin
11. Prospect – Get Over You (Lady Dubbz & Jay Switch Remix)
12. Sc@r & Justine – Feel The Rush (Bustin & Skampy Remix)
13. D-Vide – Pilgrams Of Zen
14. Noize Suppressor & Rob Gee – NoizeGee (Not In Mix)

The tracks look good, and sound good too! I’ve got to mention that for a strange reason the 14th track is not in this mix. It cuts out a minute or two too early, so no Rob Gee/Noize Suppressor.

She has chosen a few memorable and happy tracks. She does it best! She knows what to play, and it works. Very cheerful and uplifting UK Hardcore, The tracks are all good, and it will leave you breathless. She has done it again, a wicked mix. The Rev Up podcast have asked the right person to compose a wicked mix. Sc@r knows what to do to please the listeners.

Too many great anthems to mention. I can’t just pick out one, I simply can’t.

There are a few tiny errors, maybe recording errors? It doesn’t change the fact that it’s a Sc@r mix, and it’s worth at least one download and a share. If you don’t, the Sc@r fanbase will haunt you down!

A wicked mix. Suitable for this weather! Sc@r never disappoints!

If you are a huge fan of the best female DJ in the world (DJ Sc@r), I’ve got some good news for you! She’s back! Well, not really, she hasn’t returned yet to the UK of to the continent we all know as Europe, nor has she uploaded a brand new mix, but she’s back, with an old mix. She only found this mix the other day on her computer, a promo mix for her set at Raver Baby’s 18th event, held in Birmingham, Air Superclub, back in 2010. A lovely old mix, when she was still part of Raw Elements, before Scarred Digital became a huge succes. And it was around that time I fell in love with Sc@r. Well, I’m talking about her music ofcourse, don’t want to upset anyone.

This is the music that took me by surprise, and immediately made me a fan of Sc@r. I have downloaded every mix she has ever made, and still to this day I’ve got her mixes on my phone, and if I have a quick look, I can mention the amount of mixes I’ve got on my computer…. 18, according to my search dog (well, I’ve got a dog telling me I’ve got 18, but I could have more, maybe I’ve downloaded mixes without a title, I don’t know). I’m a fan, and I think you all know it. I’m not a weird fan, I don’t walk around with a Sc@r/Scarred Digital tattoo on my body… but a huge supporter of her music and her label. She has achieved so much over the last couple of years, and it’s weird to hear these anthems again, and realise that this mix is 4/5 years old! My God, time does fly by, doesn’t it?

The mix has got the tunes I really love, and I think it’s time for you to witness the tracklist, and what you can expect from the world’s greatest female DJ. Shall I stop kissing arses?

01. Insight – U Thrill Me (Sc@r Remix)
02. Sc@r, Uplift & Marie Louise – Move Your Body (Chaos Remix)
03. Sc@r – Love Kicks
04. Jimmy J & Cru-L-T – Take You Away (Sc@r Remix)
05. Sc@r – Epiphany
06. Sc@r & MC Supplier – London City
07. Sc@r & Chaos – Tell Me The Way
08. Sc@r & Uplift – Your Destiny
09. Sc@r – Acid Porn Monkey
10. Sc@r & Miss Special K – Heavy
11. Luna C – The War (Sc@r Remix)

This is so wicked, can’t believe these tunes are so old?! And they sound fresh as a daisy, they do! Like they were made yesterday! They are timeless classics, and yet so underrated.

When I first spotted ‘London City’, it made me smile. Still don’t have a clue what he’s saying. I can hear him say ‘Tottenham’, ‘Hackney’,  Heathrow’, but also cretin, rainbow, cheek words… could be just be me, but he rhyhmes so fast, my brain doesn’t seem to absorb the words. I must ask my wife (who’s actually from London) what he’s saying, maybe she can figure out what MC Supplier is saying….

The mix has got so many great anthems, such as ‘Acid Porn Monkey’, ‘Take You Away’, and the best one in this mix: ‘Tell Me The Way”. I simply love this track, because the original kicked arse a lot when it was released back in 1995, and I was a huge fan of the Europop/Eurodance sound. Cappella should have been proud if they had the opportunity to listen to this remix, made by Sc@r and Chaos. Big, big track.

Is this Sc@r’s greatest mix? Well, difficult to choose from all those mixes. I’m glad it didn’t contain the Rob Gee remix (it’s not the best), but only the finest tunes she has ever made. But is it the best? Maybe, maybe not. To me every mix is a succes, and even her recent mix with Reflux is a big one (Future State Hardcore Volume 1, review also on this wonderful website).

I miss the good old days, I miss this specific sound. Oh why does UK Hardcore have to evolve? Sc@r knew exactly what she did back in 2009/2010, wish more artists were influenced by her approach.

Ps. If you are a fan, and you really want to see her again… this year she’s coming back to the UK and Europe! Not for good, but to perform at several events. I will do my best to see her, she deserves all the credits for what she has done for us Scarred fans. We are scarred for life!
